I'ts not so much a project but a restoration as best i can. Bit of background being i'm trained mechanically with equipment, and have experience with welding. But as far as automotive goes, im still fluffing useless aka (n00b).

So... this should provide some entertainment as i "attempt" to develop what skills i have on the poor victim, err i mean car :D

Just like to thank various people on this board, petrol being the most memorable, for their huge contribution (How to's, write ups etc). The fate of this poor car rests firmly on there shoulders, for the crime of giving me the nerve to have a go

Introductions complete, here is the patient, pretty much as it stands at the moment...

Plenty more pics to come, will need to get some shots of the bad bits..

Basically needs a few bits doing to the body, and this is only the visable stuff  For a spanner monkey like me, its a bit daunting, but ill give it a go.

The exhaust pic is to show how low it hangs, to get an idea, its currently at standard ride hight. The lowest point on the exhaust leaves about 3.5 inches. Will be seeking a mongoose turbo back to solve this issue.

First bit of advice is the bootlid. I would like to pull the spoiler off to assess the damage, but have no intention to refit it. What would be suitable for sealing it up temporarily (few weeks max hopefully) while i get the bits i need?

Cheers guys

Just to add, i should be down to only one motor this week, so henceforth, this will be the daily runner. So all work will have to take that into consideration ;)

This stuff? http://www.eabassoc.co.uk/Flashing%20Tape.htm
Thought about that, but i dont really want to lighten the back end of the car. From my understanding its slightly front bias with the mass?
Cheers for the ideas :)

Made a bit of a start today after getting back, and this is what was revealed...

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s12/TrIcK361/DSC00013.jpg

Fair bit of nasty corrosion, so started cutting out as much as possible..

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s12/TrIcK361/DSC00016.jpg

Not looking too good, had to take out a large portion for this one  possibly a bit too much.

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s12/TrIcK361/DSC00017.jpg

Second was far better, but still leaves me with 2 huge holes.

Sealed up for the mo with this...

Flashing tape from B&Q (suprised by all the tools in there  ). Tenner for 10m x 175mm iirc.
Looks like crap but at least i can wash the car now :D Tried to refit the spoiler to tidy it up, but one of the studs sheared. Just happened to be the end, so had to remove it

Just need to source some steel, fiberglass and filler, and we are away

Query, does anyone know the paint code for this colour? Want to get some mixed up. :D

And while looking for the codes here, i have noticed that the paints have changed recently? Something to do with them being water based now on the 2k stuff. Any ideas how this will affect me?
And is mine pearl or mettalic? I really am new to the bodywork stuff

Codes listed here courtesy of arry http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=187923&highlight=paint+code+blue

Guessing i'm TH1?

Update...
Having problems getting much done due to the weather and work, but managed to get some sorted.
Had a mare with the flashing tape that i fitted (see above pic). Took nearly 4 hours to get off. Required peeling back and cutting with a knife. This was an absolute c***, then had to use panel wipe to dissolve the bitumin. Needless to say it leaked due to the way i had sealed it, so i have changed my approach with this material.

Anyway, this is how it stands at present..
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s12/TrIcK361/DSC00010.jpg

The right hole i attempted to stitch weld it, but with me being exposed to the elements, didnt work too well.
The left one was tack welded, which i then redid, ensuring penetration into the patch plate for strength. Very little buckling like this and strong. Overall not too bad but could have done better.Ground down to below flush then finished off with Kurust and covered.

Heres hoping for the weather to hold

Whats the best way to remove the nissan decal? (No heatgun) *Sorted*

Took all day and presently drying as i type this. Certainly not happy with the results, but popped thr bodywork cherry and got a water tight bootlid hopefully.

Anyway, cut & welded up the holes at either end due to the rot like this..

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s12/TrIcK361/DSC00011.jpg

Had a lot of 'fun' during the filling part. Used Davids P38 which gave lots of viable pitting. Probably due to my lack of experience, but got the hang in the end. 60, 240 & 1500 grit used.

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s12/TrIcK361/DSC00015.jpg

(finished smoothing for this attempt)
Running out of time and need the car for tommorrow so had to get on with painting. Not happy with the results, but at leat it wont leak, and i should be able to attack it in the near future.

(First coat)
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s12/TrIcK361/DSC00016-1.jpg

Did a second coat to smarten it up, but the pitting is still visable
Coated in zinc primer, hopefully be able to smooth it up better in a few weeks. The welded spots are very strong at least

Minor update, had to splash some cash to sort out my dangerous rear brakes. £87 later and two new discs and a set of pads and i feel safe driving again :)

This is what came off the car....

yep thats the way mate get some top stop of fine filler ask your local body shop then 3 coats of primer in your last coat wait 5 mins and spray black gloss paint over as a mist leave to dry over night and then next day sand all the black off and it should be good for paint
