Hi All,

I was wondering if people would want to know the progress on my S13 rebuild.

Some of the long time members and moderators on here will probably remember all that has happened a year or two ago and therefore wanted to start documenting everything that has happened since and what will happen to get this car back on the road.

I would like to make one thing clear though from the start though...

I know and still remember all the high running emotions and bad feelings in the last major topic about my car and I would appreciate it if this did not re-occur here. I know it was about a year ago now that it all kicked off and I do still feel the same as you all, but the past is the past and I just want to look forward to getting this car in as best condition as possible.

Thank you.

Now that that is out of the way, on with the story.

It was about 11 months ago the car returned in a barely drivable state and not long afterwards went into Deeks garage to be pulled apart and the damage assesed.

Trying to remember this far back isn't easy for me so if anyone (Deek, Arry, Cosy, etc) want to correct me, please go ahead.

At this point I want to thank them all again for all the help that I have received and continue to be provided with to this day.

Also to everyone else, Bodie and family, especially. I still think of you (not in a gay way :wack: but in an amazed way that there are still people like you left in this world.

Anyway before anyone cries :ghey: at me I shall continue.

I think the most devastating news to me on starting to pull the engine apart was the news that the turbo seemed to have failed. Not in any normal way, oh no, the core seemed to be binding and as such little teeny tiny particles (shrapnel I liked to call it) went through the oil return into the engine. (all the way down to the sump, but I'll get to that...)

The valve stem seals seemed to have died as well, but that paled into comparison to the turbo damage.

The ECU needed to be replaced as well. I don't really want to say why but those of you who know the history, I will give you one guess.

Snoopy very kindly donated one to me for a very cheap sum which already had a socket soldered and an ND chip in place. Top Man.

The head was taken off the engine in situ, but as shrapnel was found in there, the rest needed to be taken out and inspected for peace of mind if nothing else.

Next was tackling the bottom end, which was taken out and put on a stand.

Th crank pulley bolt..... not a major headache, well not usually, unless it has been put on by the hulk with a 2 foot long impact gun.....

It was on so tight it bent crowbars and a reinforced steel bar was it Deek? Made a very nice and clean bend in it too... :wack:

Having nasty thoughts on the possibility that the bolt had cross threaded and binded to the engine for good and what that means for the bottom end..... allot of effort and a nasty metallic screech later and it's off.

No cross threading, dead straight, had even been copper greased.... :wack:

Shrapnel in the sump too so it had made it ways into every corner of the engine, lovely.

Engine internals aside. There is still the turbo to consider. Pretty much due to money I decided to get a T3 (I know what your going to say)

Deek had plenty of XS Power Mani's with T3 fitments so we picked the one with the flattest edge and had it tig'd up to fix any cracks or possible future cracks.

I believe that he has said that he has sourced me a downpipe with a T3 fitment too.

He has some 550cc Injectors but needs to find some caps from somewhere :Plug:

And so this is where we are at.

The list that is left:

Clean EVERYTHING to get rid of those particles.

Re-assemble everything

Map it and set everything up

Then maybe I can start looking at the rust on the arches, the bad replacement de spoilered boot lid, the ABS pump that seems to have failed and then look at how to attach S14 leather backs to an S13 shell when you don't even have the brackets that were in the back of the seat.

Sounds like the engine really did die.

Like the look of the car and engine bay.

I am looking at fitting a t28 should i just go buy a t3 turbo kit of xs power.

Just a very quick update on this, the car passed the MOT today and so just now needs a little touching up.

One of main things that hit me was apart from the engine and all that was when the car was lifted up it looked like rust holes in the usual places..... however as with everything with this car there was a twist......

Half of the drivers side sill had rotted at some point and repaired by previous owners.

Fair enough you might say.... but not if the previous owner removed the rusted portion of the sill and replaced it with some very well crafted filler....

I am not joking.....
