Bought back in October 2005 off welsh-drifter (http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/member.php?u=4120), who thinks I'm a chav that ruined his car :( , which isn't true, my dodgy mechanic ruined the car, but not completely and I'm certainly not a chav, I have a-levels to start with! When I bought the car it was running well and a couple of small problems were sorted out, like the messy steering wheel replaced and everything was perfect... until the start of 2006, during 2006 the car spent only about 2/3 months on the road, and ended up with a completely shot bottom end...

After working hard (3 jobs, 70/80 hours a week, not chav like behavior) for several months and saving several thousand pound I am now almost ready to put the car back on the road, the last part arrived today, a t25 hybrid turbo from leezon, cheers  .

Here's some pics...

I lost my boost gauge fitted in my heaters, so I bought a new one and an oil pressure gauge so next time my cars empty of oil i'll see it happening before the bottom end is completely :censored:

Original I beleive, certainly a perfect fit, might put them in, I have some good firm mats already, hard wearing carpet ones

Here's the Car supplying the engine, it had an engine rebuild in 2005, and according to paperwork/MOT's has only done 3k since
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e122/SWAC/Project%20SX/Engine.jpg
Here's the engine, I already have a decent exhaust and air induction kit, if the battery fits will have a front mount intercooler too
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e122/SWAC/Project%20SX/Helmet.jpg
And when I got home today my helmet had arrived, so I can now go on track at Japfest

Swapped my insurance back today, get the tax as soon as the MOT is done, Get it valeted too... hopefully it will all be ready with in a week... I'll keep you all updated:sxoc:

Yeah no problems with memory, if your haveing a problem with memory just run a new wire from battery posative to the yellow wire...

UPDATE: Mechanics should be finished on the weekend, in for a valet on monday or tuesday depending if it gets MOT'd on the weekend too...

Cheers for the comments, I've booked some track time for japfest, before joining the club so its not with the club but the car will be there! You'll all get the chance to see it in action....

The only reason that you had problems with the engine my friend is that you found the "bren" device and turned it up. The engine had new everything including big ends and mains when i stripped/rebuilt it, and as chris may vouch for, if he remembers (no pressure mate ;) ) the only reason the engine was underpowered previously to me rebuilding it was because it was a jap spec engine and the previous owner had shut off and locked in place the 4 inlet butterflies. The car was set up on a rolling road afterwards (mtm in newcastle emlyn) and was reliably set to 225bhp with no boost spiking and the mixture staying perfectly balanced throughout. If you feel i'm being unfair lets meet up and chat about it, but remember, I have been a technician for many years and have NEVER had a fault with any of my work which would cause anything to fail.
That said, it would be nice to see it back on the road but maybe driving a little more sensibly. ie- forwards, not sideways into kerbs on roundabouts.

Good luck with it and all the best,

jon.

ok the kerb on the roundabout was me, but i never touched the 'bren device', it was still running the same boost when it died to when i bought it off you.
The reason i had problems was because the viscous fan went, leading to water pump and head gasket failure, fair enough I could have prevented that and kept it as the viscous fan needing replacing, but lack of knowledge and dodgy advice meant i didn't, then it was too late! Then some jackass cowboy mechanic completely screwed it... noticed you still think i'm a chav:(

I'm learning and hopefully won't be making any of the same mistakes again...

Unless it seized, the water pump would still circulate the coolant as it's belt driven, so it shouldn't have led to any other failure. But i can assure you that the boost was upt because i could hear and see by the way the car was accelerating. There wasn't a stone unturned on that car when i had it so if you wanted any advice you could have asked dude. I was just extremely gutted when i saw how the car was after i threw thousands at it keeping it immaculate and in top condition in every way, but i understand it's your car and nowt to do with me.
If you haven't already put it together, get the exhaust manifold faces skimmed to stop it blowing the gasket on number 4 and between the turbo/manifold.

P.s, is the signature a bit better now? I may update it when i see you and the car about! VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV

I think what happened is the fan was vibrating on the water pump quite bad... and the water pump was leaking :( I persona;;y didn't turn the boost up, I didn't really know anything about it until it was being taken apart. I have a new manifold to go on with new gaskets, i know the old one was blowing. I'm going to be buying expensive tyres soon so it won't be going sideways much, but as I'm you know its hard to resist! Sig is better now, hopefully middle of next week it will be back on the road...

I have faith that all will be good again very soon  shaun you are doing a good job mate at least you are not doing what a lot of people do when this happens and brake it that would be a shame.

Anyway glad to see all is going well with the rebuild dude

And yes, that gold one is a good one, close to mint, no interest when I put a for sale thread up, now i put up an un-related thread everyone wants it!

Just had a phone call from the garage, they're both going up on the ramps side by side now, ready to swap the engines... :D:D:D

If the other halfs in a good mood I might be able to get to it to take some pics! Otherwise the next set of pics will be the finished car :D:D:D

Can't wait to get it back on the road now...

Been to the garage today, the mechanic had concerns the burning oil problem was to do with the engine as opposed to turbo :( So I went in to have a look at it with him where we found a little play in the shaft and a badly kinked oil return pipe, so it's going back in with a finger's crossed approach:indiff:

I got some pics too:

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e122/SWAC/Project%20SX/Image228.jpg

He was just about to change the auto clutch/flywheel for my old manual flywheel (if they're different) and new clutch :D

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e122/SWAC/Project%20SX/Image230.jpg

:D

I also think I might drink my self a new 'catch can' :wack:
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e122/SWAC/Project%20SX/Image231.jpg

Any comments on the oil burning problem 'might' be apprieciated!!

i'd replace the turbo with my one mate, just to be on the safe side

Shauns9119
23-03-2007, 00:19
Turbo has been replaced, that was going to be done anyway... I managed to get some more pics today as the car finally nears completion, however my computer is:censored: ed so i can't post them...

The mechanic has family problems, and has had to go away, the last thing he did was show me how to use his ramps and where to find all his tools. So I am left to finish it off in his garage:)

There has been a couple of problems which I am slowly getting around, I lost my 3-pin AFM, but I found another in my house:)

My exhaust is bent, its fine up until the last section, but I've instructions on how to un-bend it.

Last but certainly not least, I fell off a ladder in work today (was my fault, wasn't even climbing up it, sat on it) and I think I've sprained my wrist, It hurts to type or turn off a light, I'm really gonna struggle tomorrow....:(

But I haven't been detered, I will endeur the pain and battle on to get it on the road for today(Friday) Might just need the brakes fitting afterwards(and maybe the exhaust straightening).

However it goes, I expect 100% completion by monday at the latest.
This includes a thorough cleaning:)

As soon as it's done i'll get some new pics... and concentrate on my 'something different for ice project' (http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=277486)!!! :sxoc:

Almost finished, I went to the garage on friday, luckily had a spare AFM to go on, worked through the pain and got it running by about 11:00am WOO!

Just time to finish off the brakes... this caused problems :(

I swapped the brake lines, calipers, and pads, and it was time to put the wheels back on...

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e122/SWAC/NewCaliper.jpg

it looked good, I tried to put the wheel on, it wouldn't go over the new caliper... so what do you do, you think :censored: it, i'll grind away the nissan logo, give me a few more mm

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e122/SWAC/Grind.jpg

Bad Idea, I almost had it, was grinding away the last titchy bit causing problems when brake fluid started ouzing out :( - 100% gutted

But I have a new caliper on the way, and I have some 10mm spacers, already had 5, so now 15, took the wheel studs out today and have some on the way an inche longer, so hopefully, car will be ready 30mins-1hour after they arrive...

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e122/SWAC/Engine.jpg

I got the engine in and its running well, no blue smoke like i had before, only problem was whn i put my oil pressure gauge in i didn't seel the connections properly, so had to redo that... then I encountered another problem

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e122/SWAC/bonnet.jpg

the bonnet bolts snapped putting it back on... so that is another job for tomorrow... still, provided the post isn't late should be waiting just for MOT by dinner tomorrow, I'll post again tomorrow with more info :sxoc:

Shauns9119
26-03-2007, 22:14
It might be, I had it in oct. '05, it was on the road for a bit till the problems started, and it's been local to pembrokeshire for a few years before that...

So close now, all that was left was to put the bonnet on when I had to leave and go to work, would have finished it but two bonnet bolts snapped in it, so it's not just a 2-min job. took all day to get it done, wasn't going well at all, the new wheel studs I got needed machining before they fit, which took a while as the the machine shop was busy, but eventually got it done, learned a lot about cars during this project, the garage were meant to do it and my hands stay clean, but that hasn't happened at all... today's lesson was bleeding brakes, think I got it right :wack:

Finish work at 12 tomorrow (12 lunchtime) I imagine I'll be too busy cleaning, polishing, enjoying my finished car to post anything up here though... If it's finished I might just leave a very quick note :sxoc:
