First I got these from Mr Dunn....
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/DSCN0730.jpg
and I made them look like this....
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/BuddyClubs002-1.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/BCs001.jpg
I got these from ebay before christmas. They were pretty shagged but after a bit of sanding and filling and sanding and painting, they looked like this....
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/spats002.jpg
and then I bought this...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/cage002.jpg
So I had to do this...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/cage003.jpg
While I was ona spending spree I also bought this....
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/bumper002.jpg
Seeing as the bumper had to come off, so did the dented wings....
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/180sxwings003.jpg
And undented 180SX wings went on....
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/180sxwings006.jpg
So the cage fitting started....
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/cage004.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/cage008.jpg
Paul_S13 came up to do the welding as mine is a bit ****y....
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/cage006.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/cage011.jpg
But I had to weld the support boxes for the front legs as Paul went home. No pics because I forgot.:wack:
I also welded on a brackety thing for the new front towing eye...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/toweye001.jpg

So, I need a battery cut off switch. So in it went with pull cables mounted on a rather nifty bracket I made.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/cutoff1.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/cutoff004.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/cutoff2.jpg
Then I bolted the cage in properly and put the dash back in....
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/cage027.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/cage028.jpg
and got the bumper back from the spray shop. Not the best colour match unfortunately.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/newbumper001.jpg
And then I finished putting the rest of the dash back together and added cage padding...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/cage0361.jpg
and chucked some bonnet pins on....
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/bonnetpins1.jpg
And some FIA harnesses....
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/FIAseatandharness1.jpg
and then a plumbed in fire extinguisher system fell into the car along with the interior pull cables for the battery cut off and extinguisher...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/fireext1.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/fireextandintpulls.jpg
And now, thank god, its finished and I treated myself to a super unhealthy fry up.:D

25-02-2007, 21:53
Cheers all.:)
I'm not a big fan of the stripped out look. Ok for a full blown track car I guess but mine isnt quite there yet. The next thing I want is a proper 2way diff rather than the welded one Ive got. Not because it'll make much difference drifting on track but just so its nicer to drive on the road.:wack:

Who did the bumper in the end then Steve?
Looking really good there Mr C,all that hard work has certainly paid off  ;)

Who did the bumper in the end then Steve?Panelcraft in colchester. Im seriously considering asking them to do it again, in the right colour. Pisses me off really, I gave them a wing panel to match the colour to as well as the code. Took 3 bloody weeks to do it as well.

Throw it back at them mate, its not like they can give you the old "well we had to spray it without the car so you can't expect it to be spot on" excuse if you gave them a paint code and a panel to match it to
Daniel san
25-02-2007, 22:24
Yeah, no excuse for that if they've got an entire panel to match it against! What did they charge you? I guess they were cheaper than the prices we got when you came down - by how much?
colchester daz
25-02-2007, 22:26
agreed mate, id send it back.... what else you got planned for it??
Stevecarter200

Its an oil catch tank... and looks suspiciously like an anti freeze bottle to me ;)
Looking good Steve, shame about the bumper, but I'd tell them it doesn't match, they'll moan but should do it again. Melford Panelcraft (same company?) did a wing for my old chap and it was shite, so he got them to do it better :)
Got any decent profile shots of the car? Your bodywork is almost identical to mine (180sx bits, etc) and I was wondering what bumper to put on the front so would be good to see how well it ties in with the OEM stuff
Heres one or two from the weekend... :)

Nice looking s13 and great pics
Cheers Matt, looks quite good, the lines of the skirts (which I have a set of) match the front bumper quite well, I was worried that some of the bumpers with the flared lips would look out of place.
What bumper is it Steve?
Have the wings been painted as well, as they look a long way out on the 2nd pic?
By the way Matt, I'll get those centre caps one day, just had a lot of shit going on of late and really haven't had chance to arrange anything.
In Steves absence (sp) the bumper is a URAS N+ I think and the front wings came off of a 180sx breaker he bought a couple of years back. Same colour as his, but that pic does indeed show it in a bad light :wack:
No probs with the centre caps mate. I still have them under a pile of crap in the garage (which I hope to tidy this week ) :wack:

Crackin work Steveo, fookin nice one mate.
Not many bumper i like aftermarket wise, but i think that follows the natural lines really well
Gonna have to get it re-done though mate, we both know it will annoy the shit outa u if u dont :(

We always seem to go for the same type of stuff.
And yeah my carpets will defo be going back in when the cage is done, in fact, so will th rear seats and arch covers :D

Must admit, I'm seriously considering a full spray as the nearside rear quarter is miles out as well (rattle can spraying, yay!). I'm not actually sure which panels are wrong though, its had so much paint over the years, before and since I bought it, they are all a bit out.

Took the car to the spray shop for them to have a look at the bumper. In all fairness to them they went straight for the colour swatch, compared it and said they would respray it as the colour hadnt come out like the swatch. They are going to do a colour card this week to make sure they get it right this time so it should be all sorted within a couple of weeks or so.:)

So this week I have mostly been fitting this...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/wastedspark006.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/wastedspark005.jpg
As a trial run for the lovely people at DW. It works good. Better idle and smoother power delivery, particularly low down in the revs.
Then I removed the welded diff and fitted this...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/diff001.jpg
and replaced this...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/diff003.jpg
Did the 30 minutes figure of 8 bedding in, which was fun.:wack::no: Then had a little play.:D First impressions are that the back end comes out easier than with a welded diff both with clutch kick and power over and is much much nicer to drive on the road.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/diff005.jpg

Good stuff Steve, what makes a remote coilpack better than 4 direct ones?
Its new for a start so works better.:D Most standard coil packs are at least 15 years old and have done 100,000 miles or so, they cant possibly be working as good as they should.
Fair enough, I've never been sure about the quality of connection on the spring loaded contacts either. Suppose you don't know til you try!!

Not sure on price as this is a development one for Driftworks.
Good work steve, have been waiting for DW to release a wasted spark setup - so much so that I went out and made my own kit.
How did the coil pack wire into the standard loom? IIRC, there are 5 wires going to the coils from the main loom, and only 3 on a wasted spark setup.
Im guessing 1 is Earth and the others are individual for each coil, so with a wasted spark you've wired 1&4 to 1 coil on the remote pack and 2&3 to the other coil on the remote pack?

ColYep, thats pretty much it. Theres a 12v feed and 4 trigger wires. Wire them up as you said and all is good.
What coil did you use?

I was going to use a ford one, but ended up with a Vectra 2.5 V6 its a bit chunker than the ford one, but as it was an experiment I wanted to stay cheap, and it was :)

V6?
V6?
lol! Ok Colin, breath and think before you speak! Just read the auction to find out exactly what it was, but it also listed a V6 - since hes also breaking one! Its actually from a 2.0Litre 16V Ecotec. :o

Well, problem solved with the mismatched paint on the bumper. I sort of killed it today at Santa Pod drifty practice. Hit a couple of cones and a fence.:wack:

Kev, you crashing was cool. I just want to be you.:D
Its repairable but I doubt it will look pretty. I think I'm going to buy another bumper for road use and have the damaged one for drift use.
Also managed to make my aerial look like this... Z .... after a flappy bit of tyre wrapped itself around it.:wack:

So hopefully tomorrow I'll be grinding out the nasty bits on the front and chucking some resin in and then some filler. With any luck it will come out ok.
Then comes the nasty bit of painting it. I'm not paying £170 again so its either going to be a rattle can job or I'll see what I can do with my compressor and cheapo spray gun. It could go horribly wrong.:D

Steve I think you'll be surprised at how well they fix up fella! The structure and shape of it looks intact so glass the back as you've done for support and strength, glass the front, then rub it down a bit to smooth it then paint it up again. You're handy with your hands and tools etc so you'll shock yourself I bet!
Sent the email over to Japan anyway btw
Stevecarter200

Yeah, its coming along. Dripped some resin into the front of the big cracks for a bit more strength and have filled and sanded it down. Not going to bother with the small cracks at the top of the bumper because it means I can get away with just spraying the bottom lip bit. Its not going to be perfect as a couple of bits are slightly misaligned but it will do for a bumper to drift on.
Oddly enough a can of cheapo paint Ive got thats supposed to be Nissan TH1 (but isnt) turns out to be a perfect match for the non matching paint on the bumper. Bonus.:wack::D
Still going to want another bumper for posing in though Dan.

Good repair job :) You getting another N+ for show?
Shame your S13 is now tri-tone :wack:
On a side note, you mentioned you had tried some Federal SuperSteels, what did you say about them again? Piss poor? I have a pair and debating whether to bother keeping them or not (road use).
Stevecarter200
18-05-2007, 09:44
Its more quad tone really.:D
Well, I killed the Federals at Eurodrift last saturday as I ran out of drifty tyres but they are suprisingly good. So much so that Ive just bought another pair. Havent tried them in the wet but they were fine when the road was damp.
Yeah but do you like them because they step out easilly?
Oh, and talk about satellite delay with the reply :p

Yeah, the delay is terrible. Technology today, rubbish innit.:wack:
They grip very well, Ive got them as my road tyres so dont want slippy slidey ones. In fact I was using Federals at Japfest on the track session, didnt have any probs at all with grip.
May aswell keep them then :)

Grooved rear drum. Nothing serious, it shouldnt need much to deglaze the shoes, which I'd done at Japfest.

And a pic of my intercooler after collecting a cone at Eurodrift.

yowsers, those cones really hurt
Shame about the rear quarter Steve, that's both of em that'll be full of filler now, I guess? :wack:

The IC is fine and doesnt leak. Took it off yesterday and pressure tested it. It held well enough to take over 2 bar and fire the bung in one end straight out of the garage and about 20foot.:D

Another bit of damage wouldnt have mattered.:D
Grooved the drum with a dremel.:smash: Going to keep an eye on it for cracks or anything iffy but I reckon it'll be ok, the cuts are pretty straight and even and only about 1mm deep. Might help, might not but its worth a try.:)
