Will keep this updated of all the stuff that happens to the oboe, whilst it's in my care as owner :)

So, thought I'd put a thread up as things are progressing a little now that I've bought the Pink Oboe from Yeager.

The slut title is a little appropriate, as whilst she's been sat in my garage awaiting some lovin, she's given me knobrot.

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/mould.jpg

So, with the assistance of "the Ruston", the S13 now has its turbo back on (after I snapped all the studs off inside it at Donington a few months ago). Probably somewhere around this photo being taken. (it suddenly sounded like a tractor eating fenceposts).

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/dmon/japfest2/Jenks%202.jpg

It's soon to go off to a friend for a new ass and torso extensions (aka rust removal)

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/whatrust.jpg

Put a new steering wheel on the car too, with the v2 DW snapoff boss thing.

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/drifty%20009.jpg

Just recieved some lovely wheels from some company called Driftworks, to make the car have a matching set of alloys for when driftafying. 18x9.5 et30ish x6. Yay for consistancy.

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/wheels/drifty%20008.jpg

Just need to get the final parts of the 5 stud conversion (tommorow) and get them swapped on. In the meantime, here are some pictures of them on the Scud - my new tow vehicle :wack:

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/skoda/drifty%20012.jpg

So, pink and brown jokes ahoy. Loads of other stuff is happening to the car, but I'll post more about that when it all arrives ;)

They're only for the rear, I have some other rims coming for "show" gayness and occasional road use. More on that when they land :D

Read about this S13 again recently in one of my old mags, so... is it staying pink:D

And he might even spray over that god damn awful colour! What on earth was the previous owner thinking??

Steve, I KNOW you are going to do an amazing job. If I had the money when I first built it, I would've done all the work you are doing... but I ploughed that into the mechanics :) You got a great car there fella... I can't wait to see you drift the neck outa it.

Near enough :)

http://doristars.com/v-web/gallery/albums/tunergp/DSC_0001.sized.jpg

It has 17x9 et27 on it at the moment, and they sit dead on to the arch. With the proper new wheels being an et-10 on the rear, I need to flare the arch 37mm, which ties in nicely with the 9.5j's with ET15 after spacer :)

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/rust/Dsc00037.jpg

Patch up the big holes on the chassis legs, that looked like they'd been caused by a trolleyjack.

Then start on the mother****ering bit at the back of the sill.

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/rust/Dsc00046.jpg

At this point we realised that the car was on fire, so scrambled around finding wet things. Coolant everywhere inside it is then :wack:

Was actually suprised that there was anything left in there to catch fire, but apparantly there was some stuff in the inside of the arches. Was being the opportune word now.

Hopefully she'll now pass her MOT, which is booked for Wednesday.

Felt ****ing brilliant driving her again today. Even took a girl out who was in the garage slobbering on the pinkness of it all for a quick roundabout session. She looked quite ill at the end of it all. Marvelous :D

Girl was nice. She was there with her friend and some guy in an Impreza, when I was packing up at the end she was saying to her friend "I'm going to ditch Jon and go out with that guy in the pink car!" To which I thought, "Hmm, materialistic, cya later." :)

There's lots left to do, but the most immediate thing is getting it MOT'd and taxed etc. Then the fun begins when more stuff lands from random countries :)

MOT - Fail :(

Rear fog lamp not in good working order (ie it's not there :( :wack: )

Hazard warning switch faulty
Hazards not flashing when engine on
Hazards not flashing when engine off
Nearside front steering rack gaiter split

Windscreen has a haggard old sticker encroaching into the swept area of the wipers by more than 40mm. Boo, goodbye old UKD1 sunstrip :(

10 days to fix. Should hopefully have some time to do it :)

Mr Carter has done the 5 stud conversion for me. It took 2 days of utter pain. Anything that could go wrong, did go wrong :wack: But it's done now, and I have some pony pictures from my phone to show off :wack:

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/wheels/5stud/Dsc00043.jpg

Rota Torque 18x9.5 ET35 drift rims WITHOUT the 20mm spacer (on track they will be used with the spacer). Couldn't leave them on as the wheelnuts I have arent open ended, and they were WAY out of the arch hehe.

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/wheels/5stud/Dsc00044.jpg

Old Rota GTR 18x9.5 ET30 test fit on the front. Needs small spacer to clear the strut, but they'll never be on the front anyway. The new wheels will be, when they turn up

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/wheels/5stud/Dsc00041.jpg

17x10j fitted with the 20mm spacer. Way out from the arch, but should still be useable when the flaring is done.

Roll on the Weds turning up, and 17x9 et10 (0 with the s14 arms?) and 17x9 et-10 rear :D

Cheers Steve, for only crying a little bit today :wack:

I have 5 sets of 5 stud wheels sat in my garage, from previous driftcars. Kinda makes sense to make my car 5 stud so I can use them :)

Car's being painted hopefully end of January/early February/whenever the kit turns up :)

It seems its basically went in all of the bad areas :(

But at least it should feel more solid when its back on the road mate :)

sounds like its the power wire to the hazard switch thats gone wrong mate, may even be a fuse....

Or maybe its a dicky switch....

U going V mount then, since the bonnet ventage??

how much of a pain was it to fit those gtr's to the front? did you only need a small spacer to clear the strut? :)

The car wasn't lowered down in that picture, so not really sure what issues there would be. Will give it a try when I'm bored. :)

The wire issue is hopefully going to get sorted when the car goes and stays with Steve for a few days, and he can check them all out and work out WTF is going where :)

Not going V-mount just yet. I'm saddened to say it's purely tartfactor that that vent is there. Rest of the kit will follow as soon as it lands (so it doesn't just look like a normalish car with a massive vent stuck on the front :wack:)

Few more pics, as I got it out today just to piss off some cnting neighbours.

These are without the 20mm spacer on the rear. So 18x9.5 et35.

To clarify - rears are 18x9.5 et35, fronts are some crap Blitz rims I had in the garage, 18x8.

Yeah it needs to wind some lock off it's a bit like this at the mo :D / \ with the toe looking like this \ | :wack: Should get it sorted tommorow though.

It's got some Origin 20mm wider wings sat in the garage. I'm going to have a crack at drilling the holes in the right places tommorow and see if I can get them on the car :)

Edit - I mean wind some camber off in the first line of this. Natch, too much drifting. :D

PS - The other pair turned up today, and have tyres on them. They'll be fitted to the rear tomorrow too :)

SteveDunn
12-01-2007, 20:59
4 wedsports - road use/show use. Front pair drift use.
6 Rota (Torquex4 GTR x2) - drift use.
2x Stern 17x10 - backup drift use.
4x Blitz 18x8 - extra backup drift use :wack:

Massive scrapeage on the back. Took it down the road after changing the plugs (sorted the Subaru problem) and it looked like I was drifting. Smoke pouring out everywhere, natch. Anyway, hopefully get the rear wings pulled proper soon.

Engine money shot whilst the bonnet's off.

Good job Steve  , which offset do you think i would need to escape from arch rolling in front and rear with 17x9 ? maybe ET30 ?

SteveDunn
13-01-2007, 21:39
If you just tuck the lip under the rear wings for a little more clearance then an et22ish would be perfect :)

Remember though, I'm running little stretched tyres, if you want to run more normal tyres then yes a 30 is about right :)

Thanks for the info, do you guess 17x9,5 ET35 with stretched tyres will fit our S13 at least at the rear without arch rolling too ?

SteveDunn
13-01-2007, 22:39
Yep, I have 18x9.5 ET35 drift rims (earlier in this thread) with 255/35 tyres and they go on the rear fine - don't know about the front though :)

Flare and wing time!

Big thanks to archenemy.co.uk who kindly did my arches. Unfortunatly one of the arches had quite a bit of rot in it, so needs a bit of filling to make perfect. That will happen when the car goes in for painting :)

Believe it's a 30mm flare on the rear. It got flared so much that i'm running a 6mm spacer too. So 9j et4 rear :)

The pink kinda makes it difficult to see, but it looks fantastic :) Phil did a real thorough job and I can highly recommend his services :D

So, today we started trying to fit the front wings. Dave Ruston noticed that there was a large wear in the wires again, which could explain my cars funky electricssicicity.

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/wingloom/DSCF5507.jpg

Then we noticed that the wires that go to one of the indicators had fused together. Bad.

SteveDunn

Yeah but 50% of the wiring needed to be cut and re-done anyway as loads of it had been stripped back by the wheels rubbing. I'm hoping this will fix my problem of the car catching fire when indicating :wack: Plus it will remove the issue of rubbage completely in the future :) It needed to be done. I spent every couple of weeks un-taping then resoldering the wires on my Soarer, this is the best plan imo :)

The thing that's stopping me starting 2007s tape trend is the fact that we hadn't finished the wireing extension :)

So, one Dave stood at the side with my extinguisher:

"Don't take a picture of my face!" - gayer.

And a very small video of what happened when I turned the key:

:D :D :D Did you see the look of "ruh roh" on my face, before I realised I had the immobiliser on? :D

Also, noticed that the expansion tank was doing nothing, so took it out to have a easier route for the wires. Will put another tank somewhere else.

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/wingloom/loom2%20004.jpg

Then, cabletied the front bumper up, before getting bored of being cold for the day. Will do more tomorrow night :)

Spent tonight doing the following:

Beating the crap out of the wheel tub metal. No rubbage on full lock now Swearing at my front wheelstuds as they wont accept any nuttage except one Swearing at one of my rear studs that decided to fall out Cut a section of the bottom of my bonnet away, for some more battery clearance Went mad and cut out the two flush fitting locking bonnet pins :D Fixed the lights coming on for no reason with ignition Fixed the popup lights not going down.

New problems I've gained:

Blue light to show main beam is on all the time, until you put the lights on dipped or main beam/flash, then it goes out Wipers not working on intermittent, and not continueing to sweep when turned off (returning back to home position, they just stop)

Tonight short antics:

Decide you're bored and find yourself with an angle grinder in your hands. Think that the two holes tha you cut to get the pins out look a bit shite, decide to "make them look a bit better" seeing as this is how the car has to look the next time its drifted.

So join the holes together, yay!

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/gaugesvent/paint%20001.jpg

Work out that the MOT man that you'll be going to see on Wednesday (maybe! ) won't like a giant bit of jagged metal strewn hole in the middle of the area that you use to run over small childrens. So, what can you do?

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/gaugesvent/paint%20002.jpg

Then get bored of that too. So go into the cabin and start working out where to put the two now homeless Defi.

Hi :)

The problems:

Steam everywhere, that was due to lack of expansion tank. The legend that is Paul_S13 found one of the bottles of powerade that I had in the car, cut a hole in it and fed some samco we found through it to do a stirling ad-hoc version. Didn't go wrong again.

Fuses: Blew 3 30amp big fuses. On the way home Saturday night the wiring loom caught fire. Turns out that even though we've moved the loom up, a portion is still in range of my stupid wheels, and had cut through and fused together. Paul to the rescue again with a KFC carpark bodge session, then a few hours in my garage that night getting it out of the way proper! Cheers again P!

Saturday the car felt great anyway, big smokey and angles, lots of bangs too from the OMex :D

Sunday sucked hard. I can't stand wet drifting, especially when the standing water is like ice. Didn't enjoy the day at all. I hooked 3rd gear for too long going down the straight, shortly after saying "I might take my bodykit off", span and sped up on the water, putting me into the tyre wall and ripping the wider front wings to shreds, denting and ripping the intercooler and generally just pissing me off! Didn't get anywhere in the competition so spent the rest of the day sulking and annoying my friends.

Studs: Rear wheel studs have all come loose, Paul cut one out that was causing particular problems and bodged it so I could get home. Car is now going in the garage for a week or two and I'm having some time out from thinking about it. More updates will come when it's changed colour and I've worked out the best way to fix all the problems I'VE caused

Some pics from the weekend, anyway:

T'was a long weekend but it made it out alive Steve, the cooler was torn but it hasn't caused a leak so no biggie, the hubs will have to come off to sort the studs but once again all little jobs that need to be done with plenty of time to spare, best start planning now and as always mate let me know if you need a hand.

Me too, i've had some horrible experiences... Paul, it really seems like you are holding the team up at the moment!! **** you have no idea how much I miss sleeping in Carters grubby house (love you lots Steve, but you do need to clean up!) and driving as a team down to the track...

Dunn, don't ****ing worry. It's all in the game. Get the bits fixed, mend the IC and get out there! You are one of the most tallented in the field... go prove it.

Oh and whats all this about Matt drifting? I've actually seen pictures with more than 10 degrees of lock.. amazing, where has he been practicing?

It's alright mate, you need to show the fact that you took the engine over 3000rpm off a bit :D

I've finished sulking now. Going to get some new wings, cars going up to the Don soon for a complete rewire job, then onto the paintshop. Those of you that know what colour I was going to go for - I'm still going to do it, even after this little accident :wack:

Wings got a bit battered at the weekend. Decided to get some new ones as these were shite quality anyway.

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/wings/wings%20002.jpg

Broked.

SRBPower supplied me with some Chargespeed wider fronts. They were on within 5 minutes, compared to 2 hours of ****ing about with the VS/Origin (I don't know which ones they were). The Chargespeed ones had all the holes cut out already, including one for the indicators. The old ones had nothing cut out, and no indicator holes. The doorgaps on the old ones were dreadful, ****ing way out. CS ones fit perfect first time.

Viper stripes init. Yo etc.

http://www.celtasoft.nildram.co.uk/cars/s13/wings/wings%20007.jpg

What I think about Version Select/Origin products.

Oh yeah, some more comments on the fit of the two products.

VS/O - Doorshuts way out. The front bits where the front bumper "wings" connect to the fenders (hate that word but its going to get confusing otherwise) was about 2-3cm away from connecting, big gap. Both sides different widths, one side my wheels touched the inner part, the other side they were a bit further out. Crap

CS - Fitted, on my own, within 5 minutes. The doors are just right. The gap bit I was talking about just then is fine, even better when I've properly connected it (the front bumper needs a little work at the bodyshop). Wheels turn fine without connecting.

Lesson learnt, always buy decent stuff in the first place.

SteveDunn
23-03-2007, 16:01
On an S13 front end the 17s are big enough imo. The rear can take 18s quite easily, but the front had issues enough getting these on full lock. That's more down to the width though. I think an S14 has a bit more clearance.

Car comes back from the paintshop in a weeks time now :)
