View Full Version : 200sx s14a road track car project
After owning an S14 before as well as S12's and an S13 I have decided too do a fast road track day car, so after obtaining a high millage S14 here we go.
I am looking at doing the following mods.
400 - 450 HP
Take a fair bit off weight out.
Keep a standard ish outside.
So here we go
front end with modified front bumper and home made front splitter.

rear standard at present
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q168/nismo9/200sx%20project/back1106.jpg
inside with bits off roll cage and all sound deadening removed.

Engine should come out in the next two weeks hopefully.
go for it man good luck keep us updated
Just wondering if it is worth seam welding all the joints in the rear. How much benifit would that give ?

sounds good, what engine spec you going for?
Engine wise.
Arias pistons
Eagle rods
ARP Bolts
Knife edje crank
Lightened fly wheel
metal head gasket
740cc injectors
poncams
walbro fuel pump
pressure regulator
Inverted manifold
big tubby
3" zorst
Power FC
Then hopefully a Z32 Gearbox conversion.
I think thats everything!!!

sounds the same spec to mine but mine hasnt got different pistons or rods yet ;)
which turbo is on your wish list?
Have got it already it came off a small truck. Used the same turbo on my last S14 and it worked well.
Its approximately T04 size but has a bigger compressor outlet 2 1/4 inch.
Front foot well and seat , will fit two seats for practicality !!!!:D

lol small truck, bet it was the right money
you rebuilding the engine yourself? might consider doing one myself as a project
Turbo was £120 but will need a 360 bearing fitted to run the sort off boost levels I want:nod: .
I am removing the engine but I will get my m8 at Henstead motorsport too fit the pistons and rods as he has all the correct gear.
i hate people with money :p on a good note, keep up the good work mate :)
Made tge roll cage up today out off 38mm seamless mild steel should be very strong. Also started removing the seam sealant. Cant decide if it is worth seam welding her yet.

Here are some more pics of the project. First pic of interior paint did not come out too well it was to cold to spray :wack: will need alot of buffing up.
Second pic engine removed was a real bitch too get out as top bell housing dowl pin would not come free. Still engine is out and at my m8's garage awaiting arival off all the goodies :) http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q168/nismo9/200sx%20project/insiderollcage.jpg.

Here are some more pics.
Here are the RX8 wheels i have had them powercoated in a metalic bronze and fitted some Kumho KU15 track tyres.

This is the new intercooler being fitted after I resprayed the front as I found a lot of surface corrosion around the back of the lights.
Refitted all parts with stainless steel bolts were i could.

Liking the bumper mod! Does the FMIC 'fill' it? Might do this when I get one!
Do you mean the front splitter ? With the splitter on and the bottom part off the bumper cut away, you can get the intercooler 2 inches lower which gives better cooling.

Looks like you're a bit handy with a welder if you did that cage yourself. Good luck with the project :)

looking good so far
got the car out of the garage and gave it a clean up ( it needed it ) so I took some pics, really happy with the wheel color.

I'm doing similar with mine (albeit around 300bhp!), stripped a lot at the weekend :) Wish I could be ar$ed to remove the soundproofing goo :wack: but I can't!
Its a pain removing it but it all helps.
With a scraper and a hammer , but you can freeze it with dry ice and it comes of easier. Anyway started the engine detailing today with some small bits.

Getting near now, just had a few peices cleaned up and done by a local powdercoater, like the dark chrome had all the engine brackets done in this :smitten:
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q168/nismo9/200sx%20project/powdercoating.jpg
And the rocker cover done in this

Wow mate this is looking brilliant, cant wait to see further updates :D
Engine nearly done now here's a pic, hopefully fit it next week then its running in time  . Any body recommend a millage to do before I can wind up the boost?

Finally got the engine back in too the car and i am now in the final stages. Running in time soon.....

Not sure how I missed this little thread! - Looking really good mate. Mine had the same rust behind the headlights also, sorted it too.
What Compression ratio did you go for on your engine?:smash:
Not sure about running in, there are many different theory's, I will do mine fairly agressively I think. Run it on mineral oil at first to make sure all is ok for a couple of hundred miles off boost and below 4.5k ish, then change oil and get it mapped I think..... :D
Good luck, looks good and see you out on track! Will also be interested to see how you get on with those tyres.
Not sure what compression ratio the Arias pistons are but they have quite a dish on them. I am also running a 1.3mm head gasket.
When i first start it i have been told too run it straight away at 3000 rpm and put it under load. This seames very agressive what do you think ?
I think i will run it in for 500 miles then change the oil and get it mapped.
Finally got the engine running today. got a oil leak from the tubby oil return pipe to sort out but thats it. Running in time..

looks great! good job so far!
Cant decide if it is worth seam welding her yet.
Too late I know, but yes yes yes YES YES, if you can, you should. A good, solid, strong, stiff shell is the basis of any good car.
Running in wise, don't leave it idling, just drive it normally on B roads so you vary the revs, don't use full load but do give it some, and let it engine brake aswell. Never let it labour. Don't sit on motorways or dual carriageways at the same revs, speed up and slow down and use different amounts of throttle
looks good, what splitter did you use? seems to abe a decent fit :)
looks good mate... what turbo and manifold is that????
also what downpipe r u using for that top mount, custom fabricated???
With a scraper and a hammer , but you can freeze it with dry ice and it comes of easier. Anyway started the engine detailing today with some small bits.
Personally I find heating it up with a heat gun to be much easier, as the adhesive let go, the material goes soft and you can (if you're lucky) pull it off in one go without it breaking into pieces. Then you can use goo-gone or a similar product to remove the adhesive left overs.

700 miles on millers running in oil  then boost is your friend:)
looks good, what splitter did you use? seems to abe a decent fit :)
Its one i made myself from the original splitter thats why its a good fit
looks good mate... what turbo and manifold is that????
also what downpipe r u using for that top mount, custom fabricated???
The manifold is an ss autochrome one with extra bracing too help prevent it from cracking.
The turbo come from the states of a modified F150 truck dont know what make , but have been told by the guy who stripped it and checked too see if it had a 360 bearing in it what it is made well and will do what i want.
The down pipe is a home fabrication from 3 inch stainless pipe.
Here we have a finished pic..
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q168/nismo9/P1010047.jpg
Any brake upgrades planned?
Also would be interested to see how the tyres perform, I have only used the toyo 888s before. Semi slicks rule on the track!
Well done mate, you have done really well!!!! :sxoc:
Have you taken it for a run on the road etc? Or are you still running in and stuff? Will be interested to hear about your power figures with that turbo.:D
Also will be interested in your findings with those tyres.
Brake upgrade in hand just got some GTO front calipers and sorting some big discs. Will do them the same time as the ARB's.
I have now covered 100 miles , just 500 to go then i can start boosting :)
Car drives OK but a little lumpy on tick over and when pulling away sometimes there is no power for a second unless i really rev here ( not the best thing to do when running in !! )
This really is the last pic...

Just like to say thanks for the comments and the advice and information I have received
:sxoc:
ha hi m8 i found the thread
Got here rolling roaded at APT last month and got the following HP figures, not to bad at 1.4 bar and reducing to 1.25. Turbo run out off steam so need to find a bigger one :smash:

looks nice tho mate
No its a bigger turbo than a T28 not sure how much bigger..
Its running 319BHP atw which aint bad for that boost.
