Should be good, my Rush was in a similar state to that when I got it, but the side panels and rear tub section was on and wheels and suspension components mounted to chassis. I thought Id have it done in a year, but in fact its taken me almost two ! Mine wasnt so much a 'kit' car as an idea, Ive bought very little from DAX so its not been the simple 'buy the next build pack and bolt it on' affair that some cars are. I have my 1st SVA test on Monday :) Dont underestimate how much time it takes to do stuff. General...err...'life beyond the workshop' and other stuff tends to get in the way more than you'd think

Good luck ! Id recommend locostbuilders.co.uk for help aswell as obviously the WSCC.

Thanks for the advice, I keep looking at it and think it don’t need that much work, maybe six months but then it kind of kicks in that its going to be this time next year at the earliest.

Good luck for Monday. Will be looking forward to that day when it comes.

I’m looking for an old sierra now, there is one local to me for £200 so I might get that so I can strip all the hubs and anything else I’m missing.

Im going to size up the SR20 on Monday to see if it will fit but its looking good so far :D

The Sr should fit easy
You can fit anything upto Vauxhall 2l XE sized blocks into a narrow body (like mine - yes, I have considered SR's for if my motor goes bang ;) ), Unless the lack of bodywork is confusing me then that's a wide body you've got? So It'll fit
The fun part is going to be mounting it, and getting prop shafts ect made/modified to fit :smash:

Quick update!

I have not done a lot to the car yet, just a lot or research and I have come to the conclusion that I’m going to use a 2.0L Zetec engine. The fact is I don’t have time or money to put the SR20 in, the Zetec has been done before and it’s a lot easer.

I went down the local scrap yard with and long list of parts yesterday and they have 90% of the stuff I need, including the engine for £100 so I pleased.

Will be picking it all up next weekend so that’s something to look foreword to!

Is it the old engine from your S15?

nice ... the amount it will weigh as well means your off boost performance will be great ..... and when she come ON boost, your eyes will roll back in there sockets something chronic

Makes a mighty fine change from all these Hyabussa engines as well that have to be driven around everywhere at 7k rpm

Even if he's using a Zetec ;) and not an SR20DE? ;) not a turbo in sight!

Shame to see you are not going with the SR idea :( would have been good to be different! but hey, it should still be an awesome car

Picked up a few things today!

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c208/Smithaam/WestField/Photo0009.jpg

Sierra rear axel, only need the drive shafts and disks but got the lot for £60 so not to bad. The diff is off a 1.8 sierra but I have a XR4i Lim slip so I will be using that.

Also picked up a set of alloys, dot know if im going to use them as yet as they are in a bad state (got them for next to nothing). I am going to see about refurbishing them but will just have to wait and see.

Mine passed SVA on 11th August and I finally got the registration documents on 26th September. Done about 300 miles so far and nothing has dropped off...and it goes quite well :D

Its starting to take shape :) its been a long time but been trying to save money and working long hours I just have not had the time.

Any way this weekend I have dropped the engine and gearbox in, got to come out again but I needed to size up to fit the engine mounts.

Also I have had to get in there with the angle grinder to make it fit but its all good fun.

The diff is fitted and also placed in the stirring column but going to have to make some custom brackets to fit it.

Here are some pictures to keep you entertained.

do you still have the 1.8 sierra diff? would you want rid of it?

MR SXY

Ii do have a spare diff but I don’t know what car it was from, think it was from a 2L Sierra and its bolt on.

you can get the open sierra diff off ebay or try locostbuilders.co.uk they sell for around £25. there are 3 or 4 different ratios for this type off diff

So how many times have you sat in the driver's seat and gone

Brrrrrmmmm... brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrmmmmm... brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrmmm

whilst wiggling the steering wheel ?

my project is along similar lines.

scratch built/designed chassis with inboard front suspension and de-deon rear.

20xe with a t28- or bigger later
r1 throttle bodies.
megasquirt ecu

aiming for around 350-400 bhp and trying to maintain a high comp ratio.

looking for a final weight of around 500 kgs

what sort of 1/4 mile potential do you think i will have ?

lightweight cars, turbo power delivery and high power dont lend themselves to great launches  plenty of work on rear axle geometry is needed to improve launch traction. its a real ball ache, guess how i know:cry:
fine once the cars above 30-40mph as wheelspin is less (although mine will spin the soft cutslicks all the way up to 80mph if im an animal :wack: )

i have 2 or 3 sierra open diffs, ratio 3.92:1 free for collection but for ford trilobe driveshafts rather than bolt-to-flange type if they are any good to anyone
