My 180 is finally finished in the bodyshop. After much fannying around with changed of plan, parts, colour and ideas, the car is finally sprayed. So...later on tonight...

This...

silly question but isnt that engine a ca? and if its a 180... shouldnt it have a sr?

No. Its a pre-SR 180SX.

What wheels are they fella?

They look very familiar

pyro
20-06-2006, 14:55
Not got a clue. They're not wide enough, though. Nowhere near.
Don't think the previous owner knows, either. He certainly doesn't know where he put his locking wheel nut key. :D

Ahh thought they might have been 17" versions of my sparco's

pyro
20-06-2006, 15:40
Toying with the idea of putting my 18" GT4s on it. Can't get these bloody rims off, though...not even to put the spacers on. Looks decidedly :ghey: atm, with the flared arches.

20-06-2006, 16:15
Car looks good and the engine looks awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To get the locking wheels nuts off you`ll have to hammer sockets onto them, you`ll need one socket for each nut as they don`t come off after:( Impact sockets are best and are quite cheap from halfrauds. I had the same problem on my old car:whip:

pyro
20-06-2006, 16:18
Tried smacking a socket onto it. Its a weird type. Looks like the lock/socket is made up of small bits of rod, of differing depths, that form a key. The locking nut takes up the entire hole, though, so a socket can't get around the nut's edges, without destroying the wheel.

MaLicE
20-06-2006, 16:41
halfords sell a locking wheel nut removal tool now... perfect for car theifs lol

Aaaand I've just realised who that car used to belong to... it's come a long way

pyro
20-06-2006, 21:10
I've got one with koukis. Further cosmetic mods aren't a priority, atm. Got to get all suspension stuff on it, finish stripping it out, paint the inside, sort out all the bushes, get the engine in, running, mapped (hoping for ~350rwhp) then sort out the wheels, get it buffed, again and then drive it, for the first time...ever. :wack:

It certainly has come along. It was blowed up, when I got it.

The wastegate came OUT of an S13, so I'm hoping it'll go back in one. If it doesn't, we can butcher the manifold, some more.

I'm selling my Z, Mr.Tone. Bored of it, tbh. Even more bored of the abysmal dealer support and levels of knowledge. Its a lovely car but with a daily driver and a weekend car, its a bit of a waste of money having it parked up. Selling my bits for peanuts is pretty depressing. Your S13 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more impressive than mine.

Anyway...I thought the 350 belonged to your lady? :p

Always wanted an S15 front and am very pleased with how it looks. Just need some rubber edge stuff to stick on the bonnet and around the bottom of the lights and it'll be done. :D

Currently the project car is having the engine bay welded up, ready to be sprayed. Was thinking about doing it hot pink. :D

will that wastegate fit???

what turbo is that??

looks nice

Evan Jones
13-10-2006, 11:33
Wow.

Just love the S15 front. Is it a relatively straight swap or is there lots of panel adjusting, chassis fettling and tricky lighting electrics to do ?

Someone hold me down while the rest of you burn my credit card please...

pyro
13-10-2006, 11:34
Spec is on one of the other pages. Its a TD06-17C.
The wastegate has been replaced with something shinier. It came out of an S13, though, so it should go back in..

typical cant find the bloody scales but its around the 25kg mark :)

pyro
13-10-2006, 13:31
Rear subframe is 21.3kg apparently, with the OEM bushes.
Front is 6.3kg.

S15 front end was a bit of a pain in the arse, for sure. Its not a straight bolt on kit.

Okay, I thought I might as well do a quick rundown, from the beginning. Hopefully there won't be too much image repetition but I'll remove the others, anyway.

We took one of these...

http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/before1.jpg

and did this to it...

http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/before2.jpg

Sent the engine off to various places to have this done to it...

http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/1.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/2.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/3.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/4.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/5.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/6.jpg

While that was happening, it went away and had this stuff test-fitted.

http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/7.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/8.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/9.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/10.jpg

Amazing quality though the West Yoko front wings were, they looked a bit 'skinny' compared to the huge fat arse of the car, so we got some +20mm fronts and got on with it.

http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/11.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/12.jpg

pyro
02-11-2006, 07:58
Added some primer and made the car look like a giant car shaped biscuit.

http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/13.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/14.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/15.jpg

Got some of this...

http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/16.jpg

...to make it look like this...

http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/17.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/18.jpg

Then because the logistics of this thing, from start to finish, were all messed up, we sent subframes off, so we could get on with this...

http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/20.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/21.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/22.jpg

...and they came back looking like this.

http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/19.jpg

Hopefully, before Christmas, we can do the same to the inside and add these...

http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/23.jpg
http://www.pyroteknikon.com/180/build/24.jpg

...and it'll all be done.

Looks quick and simple...but really wasn't. :wack:

Powder coaters? He whipped out a colour chart and told me which were colourfast polyesters and which were more durable epoxy. Epoxy is pretty much available in black only, so I settled on the purple as its a mixture of both and looked around the same colour as the car.

Came out a bit brighter. :wack:

No joins in the doorbars means they're stronger...I think. I d'no. I just asked for a cage and that's what I got.

No, I wouldn't have thought it should be sitting outside, with no windows. Its certainly not how I'd treat someone elses car.

Jim
26-09-2008, 07:30
Thats shocking but seems somewhat familiar, is it just the cage work you are having done there, if so it looks like its done so I would get the car out of there pronto :(

alanjuggler
26-09-2008, 08:00
what's it supposed to be having done & who's it with?

the rust on your inner arch spot welding isn't just surface rust anymore - will need stripping and re-painting. :(

pyro
26-09-2008, 08:19
I'm more worried about the fact you can see daylight through the spot welds.
Its at...the place it was meant to be...finished at. It came back from caging in early May and I guess its been languishing there, since.
Harsh because its so sodding far away.

I get the impression that its just going to be sprayed over and then handed back to me. There you go. It runs and is finished. Hooray.

26-09-2008, 08:22
What excuse did they give for why its outside and taking so long, I'd pull the car out of there asap if it was mine

pyro
26-09-2008, 08:42
No excuses given. The owner wasn't there, when we arrived, which was inconvenient.

Scougar
26-09-2008, 08:47
That is shocking. Car totally open to the elements. Your wiring and all switches etc may also be completely corroded/screwed now as well!

What did they say? That is NOT how it should be done. They should have taken protective measures if they left it outside. Worth attempting to take them to court, get a local (to them)solicitor to come look at the state of the car.

and i would seriously be looking at the legal side of things, unless you got it done on the cheap as some king of favour, but even so, i would not be happy, if they are a tuning/modifying type place you should name and shame, they shouldn't be treating a customers car like that:eek:

TheChin
26-09-2008, 10:32
They remind me of a company (forgot the name :annoyed:) over on MKIVSupra.net. A customer put his car in for some random jobs (fitment of a catch-tank and shortshift kit)

The shortshift git was secured with a bent wood screw and they stole his catch-can and fitted a Red-Bull can.....

Have you guys ever seen a cars underside after sitting on lawn for that long time. I mean there is humidity constantly raising from the ground so the underside is "wet" almost all the time.

Itīs not a pretty sight and the inside is nothing compared to what you are going to find under the car.

Sooooooooo...I left it for a while under various promises of completion, respraying, derusting...etc etc.

Can you see where this is going?

This is a list of parts that are now missing, presumed stolen. Well...the ones I've been informed of.

power fc and commander
power fc boost controller kit
z32 afm
air filter kit
tein rods and ends
walbro 225 pump
front mount inter cooler kit
z32 brake calipers
hydro hand brake

Car is being uplifted, on Thursday, if all goes to plan. Don't know what state its in, after having so many conflicting progress reports.

Whoo. :wack:

Can't say too much, really. Due to there being a theft issue, I'm having to deal with the police, now. Unfortunate but a necessity, if only so I can get a crime number.

Hopefully when I collect the remains of the car and my parts, there won't be too much else missing. At the very least I should be able to get a few quid back from the sale of the remaining bits.

All in all, quite a disappointing experience.

so the ''owner'' of the unknown garage no longer posts on here because if he does he needs naming and take responsibility for what he has done in case he starts trading again and screws some one else:nod:

Wow, this is awful. My friend had a very similar experience with his S14 when he took it to a garage. After he eventually recovered it (after paying thousands), in a worse state than when he left it, with missing parts, etc, he named and shamed them. There was then a mysterious arson attack on his driveway, nearly taking his house with it whilst him and his GF slept inside.

So many shady garages about now :(

Not sure, Bren. Awaiting Graham's verdict on whether the shell can be salvaged, or not. Plus I'm missing so many parts, its unbelievable. :wack:

Robdriftit

That is utterly shocking mate :( Really feel for you, think im fairly sure on the company, do you have much chance of getting anything back? :(

pyro
27-08-2009, 14:00
The shell doesn't look like its going to be salvaged. The rust underneath is pretty terrible, in places and the rust under the rear arch extensions is dismal, also.
Can salvage most of the bodykit, I s'pose but I won't be able to get the door panels or rear overfenders off as they've been blended in.
That's a lot of money in shell prep, going to the scrappers. So much for my rust free jap shell.
I'd post up some pics but you all know what a rusty S13 looks like.

pyro
09-09-2009, 22:35
pyro, are you thinking ok putting your stuff on a new shell?

There's not enough stuff to put a car together, anymore. Essentially all I've got are some suspension bits and an engine. The rest is all gone.
I'm still waiting for the police to conclude their investigation before I decide on the next step.
Any shell is salvagable but its a matter of time and cost...and if I have to start replacing all the rest of the stuff, as well as throwing a few more grand at repairing the shell...its just not worth it.

Car was there for 18 months or so, being strung along with lies and excuses, as it turns out.
