My plan was to make a thread once complete, but I've got so many pics already I figured I'd make a start now, if only for me to keep track of what's been done :wack: Before I get started, a massive thanks is in order to Kev, Kieran (my_sxy_s13), boyskew, and the rest of my mates for their amazing help so far - legends!

Begins with F217NNF, which had reached the end of her life after 17 years. The rot was getting a bit ridiculous:

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/DSCF2865.jpg

So a new shell was called for. After a false start thanks to snow  The new car was collected with the garage kevsport recovery vehicle...nice wee 800 mile round trip with a trailer to pick up a 2-tone non-running non-turbo automatic...yay!
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/DSCF2148.jpg

That was back in March, fast forward to the last week or two, with one deceased 200 and my exams all finished. First step was to strip bits of the engine to be used down, to sort the head gasket and have a look at the bottom end
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/bottomend.jpg

With that done, me and boyskew set about removing the engine and box from the 200

Next step - get everyone over together to swap the full rear subframe assemblies over between the 2 cars. The one from the 200 was already polybushed, and had my Z32 rears and 5 stud hubs attached, so the plan was to take the whole lot over

That's pretty much it, next steps are the wiring fun and building the new engine back up ready to go in. Thanks again to all those mentioned above, I'd be fcuked without them!

P.S. Ignore the playstation wannabe front bumper, that part will be getting chopped out!

Cool - will be watching this with interest :)

I'd imagine it'd probably be a pain to get the pop-ups working with the Silvia loom, are you going to transplant the one from the 200SX, or are you going to try to source a Silvia front for it?

Will be staying a onevia, and the wiring does indeed look to be a bit of a pain. Like most mechanical goings-on, I haven't the slightest clue about that kind of witchcraft...Kev and my mate did take just about every last bit of loom out of the 200 though, so it's in there somewhere :wack:

Cool - the only working Onevia I've seen on this board had pop-ups that you had to wind up be hand, so working ones would be an event :D

Is the front being painted the same shade as the rest of the car, or are you going for a totally different colour?

Pete - the green only seems nice in bright sunlight, its sat on my drive in the dull weather for 3 months looking pretty boring! It'd be nice to paint it properly, but I have the smallest budget possible....considering a matt grey colour, either like primer or the darker grey on the big U.S. air force planes :)

Good luck with the pop-ups, hopefully it'll be a plug and play affair with the S13 loom. Bit annoying that the Silvia service manual isn't readily available though (I've seen it for download , but they wanted £5 a page, or something stupid  )

We used to get problems like that at my mothers, right up until me and one of my brothers decided to have a word with the guy responsible for said calls.

Never had aproblem with them ever since then.

I find it hard to believe they are actually trying to pass law to stop things like this happening, to me it means either people will drive unsafe cars or be forced into paying really high garage bills all the time which would mean more abandoned cars IMO.

Great efforts guys, I think we should maybe have a party at yours once the works all done I'm sure we could get a good turn out.

WTF!!??? I had no idea you were working on your new shell, or that Claire had got herself a drift slag!!! Cefiro looks clean!!

Good work Sam, do you think it'll be ready for the weekend? :wack:

Maybe not this weekend :wack: Hopefully though, and with everything going to plan (which worryingly it pretty much has so far, bar the odd little problem), it'll be at the Fat & Mongofied show the weekend before JAE... although this does depend heavily on nothing major going wrong, and Kev et al not getting totally fed up of my persistent cries for help and inability to do anything other than tighten a screw when i should be loosening it :wack:

Edit: meant to include the to-do list of the remaining stuffs to be done:
-Finish off wiring nastiness
-Rebuild engine and fit with gearbox and prop
-Do manual conversion e.g. fit clutch pedal, chop the brake pedal down, make clutch slave cylinder fit etc.
-Find turbo elbow to fit the odd turbo, hoping its still in my garage, or else one will have to be bodged
-Fit exhaust, sort out handbrake and rear brake pipes
-Bodyork stuff e.g. splitter, chop front bumper, flare arches and fit wheels, and paint
-Then the less important stuff like fitting the "toys" - welded diff, bucket seat and harness, daft gearknob, fire extinguisher, Bee*R etc.

The Cefiro is pimp-mungus

This place is full of bike geeks :D

Today's progress: Aside from dribbling over some R33 GTR wheels on it, more progress was made as well as a bit of a setback....

First, the good bits - attached the bits needed for the manual swap i.e. drilling a few holes in the bulkhead for the slave cylinder to attach to the clutch pedal through

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/DSCF3412.jpg

Kev and Gordon (2 Black Lines) also paid a visit....Kev finished off the door wiring so the dash can go back in, and Gordon broke the bad news to me that the block I was planning on using is pretty much scrap  Too much rust and crap left in one of the bores from when the headgasket went and the engine sat for ages. Big thanks yet again to Kev for the spare jap-spec block that'll be used instead, and I'll keep the 1mm oversize Mahle's for a rainy day...

Tomorrow's plan is to strip the old block of everything and collect the new block after Gordon's given it a good clean, before it gets put together again. Cutting it fine for JAE now, and there won't be any time for paint, but fingers crossed...

Heh didnt know u had a thread going for this Sam

Iv'e decided to scrap my prettying plans for JAE mate, im now going for the "lets get as many of us there as possible" (that includes u Mr. goose and Mr. Bump)so its time to shift up a gear or two and get this show on the road.
What are u doing about turbo?
Is it mine or Kieran's...... actually did u say u had one??

Memory is a piece of shit :annoyed: :annoyed:

Just remembered there was some weird wires coming out of the ignition barrel i meant to find out about.
If u take a pic and post up mate, hopefully someone will recognise them.

Going by the pics John the evil one Bennett put up, i still say pre-facelift matey
We can make the barby facelift if u want and take its bumper for urs.

Thinking on mate, theres a good few niggly jobs needing done.
like securing the supports for the front bumper(the red ones) which requires sheered bolts drilling out, same for the handbrake cable.
Did the pipe left on the clutch mc reach the slave or do i need to get one of them also Sam?
From memory its about 24" long to reach, but can u check and ill get it and the brake pipes made up on thu.

Might be worth connecting up the battery mate and checking the lights and fan etc work before fitting the dash incase theres something iv'e missed (something is niggling at the back of my mind)

So if Gordon has the bottom end built 2moro, and u have a good head and all the gaskets u should in theory be ready for engine in on friday?
Think Martin is aiming for the weekend also.

But im gonna be eurodrift on sat and F+M on sun, so wont be about for engine in shenanigans, and tbh id rather be there incase sommat pops up.

Kev

ps. dunno why iv'e wrote half of this, should have just pm'd  :annoyed:

The panels all bolt on easy, had to drill a couple of holes to bolt in the headlights but aside from that I think all you need is the different bumper bar. Not sure on that though, as I don't have one at all...

As for the wiring...It was Kev that sorted that out, using a pick n' mix of Silvia and 200SX loom. I pretty much know nothing about what had to go where though...

As for the car now, its still sat on my drive sans engine. Only real progress in the last few weeks was doing the rear arches. Had a bash with Kev Kydd's arch roller (for hire btw) and was pleasantly surprised with the first arch we did, as I'd never tried anything like it before. As for the second arch...meh. It's a lot less pretty, but at least I get no rubbing now...

Bit of an update from this last few days :) Engine all back together (once again, thanks to Kev and his empire of spare bits, as I seem to have an amazing knack of losing absolutely everything that is of any use, yet having a million head bolts and others of varying uselessness for some reason) and it went in today :) Ran out of time to do anything else other than drop it onto the mounts as I was late for work, but its some progress at last :)

And some pics:

...and its in :) (no pics of that, but its no different to an engine in an engine bay, please refer to under your own bonnet :wack: )

While the car sat in the drive I'd wound the rear coilovers right down, forgetting it was maybe a *bit* too low....didn't quite expect to catch my chassis legs and subframe on the end of the drive and get beached :wack: Doesn't look all that low in pics, but if the exhaust was attached it would actually be sitting on the tarmac...

-put the steering wheel back on straight :smash:

Last I posted here it'd just got an MOT which seems like ages ago, so this stuff may not be in exact order... The engine is now all run and hasn't missed a beat :) The only problem I've had in that department was the AFM plug falling off ( :wack: my own fault) so very pleased with that :D Bren device also now fitted but driving sensibly until the Walbro goes in, as it needed slight bodging beforehand.

So random bits now attached:

GarageNightFactory SPL seat frame and my seat, thanks to Dave (205Turbo) for that

Driftworks 30mm spacers for the front:
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/08012007099.jpg

So I could fit the Starion fronts (were 7j ET 17 I think, so now 7j ET -13)
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/DSCF4459.jpg

And with the front lowered a bit more

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/MOV00561001_0003.jpg

Then went to fit the welded diff yesterday, kindly weldified by Gordon (2 Black Lines) Unfortunately in my haste, I didn't realise there was a difference in output shafts between open and VLSD, so now awaiting a parcel from Marty_T3 ( ) who has kindly donated the shafts and all the bits needed to make my heaters work...it's been a cold winter! So yesterday was spent messing about with random stuffs, like fitting the tasteful gold splitter very carefully :wack:
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/DSCF4519.jpg

Which promptly fell off as soon as I left the street  :D

I think that's pretty much it for updates as of now, still plenty to do within the next week or two before the car gets its first kicking at Ingliston. Diff needs to go on, Walbro in, timing checked, maybe lowered a bit more, fire extinguisher and harness fitted. Oh, and more stickers :D Priorities....

Is there anything other than moneys (and finding them) stopping you getting a second pair of rear Starion rims for the front? :)

I have another pair of rears but the problem I came across was trying to clear the S14 brakes - it took a 30mm spacer to get the fronts to clear, and I reckon around a 25mm would be needed to run the rears up front. Which would then mean the fronts were 8J ET -35, which is pushing it slightly :wack: Plus then the rears would look silly being 25mm further in, so they'd need spacers, and a lot more arch work and so on and so on. I was pretty gutted when I first tried to fit the rears to the front and saw how far out they were  My other plan was to buy Genjuro's lovely 16x8 ET -1 SSR Mesh for up front, but again, same story - the flat face would have need much spacerage :(

Finally, some action :D Got the welded diff fitted last week (big thanks to Dave 205Turbo and boyskew, and Gordon for welding it up) and the extinguisher, and other bits and bobs to make it ready for Sunday like sorting the boost out.

So when we got there it lookes like this
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/DSCF4709.jpg

Then came across some niggles...broke the jubilee holding on the boost hose to throttle body after about 2 runs, so had to thieve 1 off boyskew til he went home, then Colin type R til the end of the day, cheers lads :) So did some of this
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/splitteron.jpg

..til I noticed a lack of windscreen washers, and a rubbing noise. That'll be the loom worn through to bare wires in the arch then, at 2 separate large-ish points :wack: Yet more bodging - much gaffer tape to coat it, along with a bodged plastic box from Dave, and a schmorgasbord of zipties to try to keep it off the wheel :wack: So a few more runs once sorted and crunch! The dodgy gold splitter ate shit and got ripped off. Back to the pits (again  ) to sort it then back out for some of this
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/weeee.jpg

3rd gear first corner = fun :D Then after lots of spins and take-off attempts it was time to go home. A car wash could have been handy :wack:
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/DSCF4716.jpg

That doesn't quite show how muddy the thing is, large clumps everywhere! In all the door shuts, hinges, joins, drivers seat, inside the windows, drivers face :wack:

So a few wee things to sort again but finally getting to drift again was sweeeet :D The difference with this car having the diff, power, bucket seat etc. was huuuuge, pity the dick behind the wheel couldn't do it justice :wack:

P.S. Thanks to Wullie (Rubix_Cube) for the pics :)

Random update....

Wiring is still a little "funny", but for now the weird lights coming on thing has stopped, so a new battery means I'm mobile again...woo! In the meantime I rerouted the messed up side of the loom over the turret to stop it getting any worse, was surprisingly easy... (excuse the blurry pics, didn't notice my phone had a load of crap all over the lense)

Looked like this
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/12042007150.jpg

Then went like this
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/12042007153.jpg

Then came Friday and Saturday with some nice weather....say bye bye to the red bits :D I just took the whole front end off for painting, seeing as its only held on with like 2 bolts and a ziptie :wack: No compressors or guns here, just 3 and a half spray cans :D

Grrrrr I'm gonna eat you
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/13042007154.jpg

Painted most of it but ran out of paint for the bumper, so let it dry then scared old people on the road with it looking like this for a day
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/14042007157.jpg

Then once the bumper was done it looked like this
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/IMG_0407.jpg
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/IMG_0442.jpg

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/IMG_0496.jpg

Its a pretty crap paint job tbh, and clearly not shiny but feck it....the phrase thats been said a lot over the last few days is "at least its not red" :wack: It'll do for now, I've still to do the splitter and fit it again, and touch up the rear arches too.

P.S. The bonnet isn't actually black btw...its just really badly done :wack: Also the more eagle-eyed among you will notice how my steering wheel is quite off centre while the wheels are straight....thanks to a few heavy landings at Ingliston :o

Most people just think its an old Honda! Davie/Keeern - its 2 mins from my house, where the old Phillipshill hospital used to be.

Hit a bit of a snag there...took it for a little detour after uni, spotted the temp gauge almost in the red. Pulled over, horrible smell, lots of steam/smoke and I panicked and went nuts with the extinguisher :wack: Looks like the top heater matrix hose has burst onto the turbo elbow. Was only 2 mins from home so nursed it back...at first it idled and revved like a bag of spanners trying to turn it round, but once back on the road it seemed ok on/off boost  Will have a proper look when I can be arsed, if it has done the head gasket then it can get itself to fcuk.

Poor old girl looked like a heap, but sorted a few things and had some welding expertly done by Mr. ekjim ( ) and it got an MOT.

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/DSC00279.jpg

Then borrowed my mate's R33 GTRs, to make it a show car innit. Gratuitous "gas station" shot
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/_DSC00282.jpg

Yes I know the lip looks pretty gash, it batters off smooth road surfaces too so it's back off for the moment. Also, before the offset gestapo have a word I know my sticky-outyness is weak on the GTR's but I only had one pair of bolt on spacers to work with, and the front needed 18mm worth to clear the coilovers. So the back had to make do with a 5mm slip on, so yeah, eat me :D

Plenty more to be done in the next fortnight, as it's going to the 'Ring in less than 3 weeks time  More updates when I get off my arse and do stuff, like stick a VLSD back on for the trip, get some tyres that aren't a ridiculously low profile, wire up the oil guages and do other random bits and bobs that will hopefully see it do 1500 miles plus as many laps as I can afford.....after doing less than 100 miles in the last year. :indiff: :D

Few more updates... I leave for the Ring on Friday  :D Car is near enough as ready as it'll ever be after the last couple of weeks of stuff done. Massive thanks to the Kev Kev, helped me out no end with assistance and loans of parts this week, a true hero :notworthy

So anyway, the progress so far:
- I had an attack of the gays and swapped out the welder for a VLSD
- Swapped the bargain bucket (see what I did there) for a Skyline seat lent by Kev ( )
- Put some back seats back in for the passengers
- Fitted the exhaust bung properly for the motorway driving (twice, after shooting it at a Mini)
- Nooo shooooz - boxfresh Falken 452's for the rears
- Changed all the cam cover bolts for hex heads, seeing as the OG screws are made of an alloy of cheese and cardboard. Evidently so were the replacements seeing as I snapped one
- Kev sorted my timing, swapped my alternator, made my stereo work and fitted the oil press/temp gauges (donated by everybody's favourite rep called Kieran that lives in Scotland and does skids  ), much appreciated lads :notworthy
- Plus sorted all the crap needed for going away - bulbs, stickers, triangle, breakdown cover etc

And for those of you who couldn't be arsed reading my dribblings, a couple of random photos...

Friday evening we set off for Dover via Preston and South East London to pick up passengers, and met up with another couple of mates at Dover. Managed to catch the 8am ferry then boosted from Dunkirk on to a campsite in Spa. Imagine our fellow campers delight at 7 Scotsmen with drainpipe exhausts bringing a loud shirted chap with a megaphone in tow.

Campsites with bars rock, strange dutch chaps who threaten to throw your megaphone in the "aqua" before later being found chatting up 14 year olds in the pub do not. Headed to Spa circuit the next morning, bit damp but lots of nice Porsches racing and stuff, and free entry to the circuit and pitlane etc - winner.

How fcuking amazing is this place, why haven't I been here before :D

Only managed 6 laps over the couple of days but was pretty pleased I even managed that without dying or exploding. Brakes were completely gash, next stop non-sticky calipers, non-rusty/warped discs and some 5.1 fluid. Or remove them completely and throw an anchor out the back, would have done a better job than what I have now.

Apart from that only other issue I had was my car trying to lose oil from every orifice on the motorway :wack: Got a little leak from not doing the sandwich plate up tight enough, bit more of a leak from the bottom of the bellhousing (guessing rear crank seal), and by the time I got home it appears the diff has blown the bung out the chopped pipes and has covered the entire back end of the car in smelly oil :hurl: Also burning some oil too, only on lift-off though so hoping its just a dying turbo... Thankfully the diff was fine on track and the other little leaks are fine when driving, had a good check over it the morning before going on track to make sure I wasn't causing any danger :)

The fact the car actually lasted is good enough for me, I'll worry about the minor issues over winter. Once again a massive thanks to Kev, Kieran, Gordon, my mates et al for all their hard work making this thing an actual car.

Got plenty pics of random stuff testing during the day, like new SL Black Series, Lotus Evora, matt black V10 R8's, 4-door Aston and Porsche, but I won't bore you with them. Yet. The End.

Best place on earth  Not just for the driving, but the whole package. Every night we got our laps in early so we could head back and spectate with a few quality brews, some Black Falcon mob had various supercars inc. an Enzo, 'egg, MC12, Zonda etc. and were proper kicking their cnuts in, amazing spectacle  Saw the Enzo stop from flat out in a matter of metres right under our noses so they could check tyre pressures, then almost T-bone an M3 setting off again

Wish I hadn't gone now, dying to go back every year until I die now :wack:

Awesome huh? :D A few of us defo want to go back next year again, one of my mates is even trying to persuade us to go again next month :wack:

For pics, I've not had a lot of luck but there are lots of places to look. First stop would be http://www.nurburgringphotos.com/ and if they have none leave a request on the Ringers forum via the link there. Also go to http://www.touristenfahrerforum.de/forum/index.php and register to be able to see the Touristenfahrer pics forum, you need to use a real name though - took me a few attempts to work it out.

If you got no luck there try scouring the sites like I've been doing all week :wack: Plenty ones to try here:
http://z8.invisionfree.com/Northloop/index.php?showtopic=11560
http://www.maxrs.it/maxrs_ev/fotografi.html

I've not had a chance to look but there seems to be lots of threads on the 16th and 17th on the Touristenfahrer forum, there was only 2 for the days we were there and only one had pics of us.

That looks like a top trip:nod: Would lve to go one day, not sure i'd be brave enough to drive it tho:(

It's nothing like as bad as you'd expect mate, you really could quite happily drive round slowly all day as long as you stick to the right with your indicator on, lots of MPV's and campervans etc are always out there. But you won't want to drive slowly once you get on :D

So almost 2 years since the last post, figured I should actually type more shit in here. (And hello Garydot)

Been a bit quiet of late, the S13 was on the road for a few months in '09, actually made it to an SXOC meet for possibly the 2nd time ever, fitted some better wheels on the back, and saw 2 Crail trackdays before me going to America and coming home and buying the M3 pretty much emptied my account for the forseeable.

Rimz in 17x10, +20 but they're 5x130 so effective -5 with adapters. All made possible with the Chavbo Heavy Industries Arch Rollinator of Doom, the finishing touches made meeting a convoy of about 30 cars at 8am on a Sat morning on a bridge over the M8, so its precise stuff.

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/IMG_0425.jpg

Still starts first time every time, can't moan. Acquired a few bits and bobs like a new rear wing and some other shit, you know, all those useful things that don't make the car drive any better. Spent a few days tinkering, new discs, pads, and some working 2nd calipers after siezing yet another pair.

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/IMG_0455.jpg

Freebie bumper from sxowner ( ) and borrowed lights from Kev ( ) seeing as the facelift thing was proper monged, and got it MOT'd on Saturday there. Big thanks to Rubix_Cube for a loan of the wheels, promise I will sort out the resuls of my brainfail :o

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d100/smabo/one-bia/IMG_0519.jpg

Crail trackday is one like donkey kong this weekend for a thorough pummeling, then a few tweaks to make it look a bit more presentable in the next month or so like the wing, get the Borbets on all round, and drop it like its hot
