My engine has started making a sort of grinding rattling noise when i accelerate hard in higher gears, at around 3000 dropping away at 4500. It doesn't seem to do it so much in lower gears when the engine can rev more freely and it doesn't do it at all when the engine is not under load or is under light acceleration. From the cabin it sounds like it is coming from the plenum side of the engine bay, quite far over, but i can't replicate the noise with the car in neutral and my head under the bonnet so this may be deceptive. The engine runs really well otherwise and is not lacking in power. Any ideas?

when mine was making the noise i was convinced the engine was about to fall out of the car :wack:

other than that, just check that everything is securely attached to the car - heatshields, the supports for the plenum etc.

Will do, i've not looked at it yet at all really. It happened last night at 4.30pm which in Scotland = pitch blackness :annoyed: Thought i would ask on here first to get some idea what to look for:o

Ok had a look today, can't see anything wrong with any of the brackets, all the peripherals feel solid in fact the whole engine bay looks top notch. Anybody got any other ideas? (cheers though Alan:thumbs: :) )

Sorry bttt still can't find a cause for this noise, sounds like it is external to the engine but i can see nothing wrong and i can't recreate the noise with the car stationary, anybody experienced similar:confused:

could it be a heatshield?

I can't see anything broken, everything feels solid-it's a total mystery to me tbh. The car is running excellently, plenty of power in this cold weather and yet it makes this noise:annoyed:

Do you mean the one that covers the turbo and the manifold or is there another one lower down that you can't see from the top of the engine bay:confused:

Ok i didn't check that one, i'll have to do that-thing is its freezing outside and the ground is wet-the last thing i want to do is get under my car:o
