My system (original s14, sony), cannot read/play downloaded music from the net. Does anyone know the reason for this and/or possible soloution?

If you mean MP3's, the cd player needs to have the appropriate decompression software inside to be able to play them. There's no mod for this, you'll need a new unit.

If you're just on about music you've "burnt" onto a cd yourself (or someone else has done it for you), or a cd you've just copied and it won't play back, there's no mod for that either. Sorry.

If you want to be able to play music dowloaded from the net on a normal cd head unit, you need to convert the MP3's into WAV's. This will not allow you to put hundreds of songs on a single CD as MP3 does but at least you can write your own CDs and mix and match the tunes as you please.
You can download a small program called MP3 Works that will allow you to convert MP3 to WAV simply by dragging and dropping tunes into a window and clicking CONVERT!. I think you can get this at www.cnet.com in the downloads section.
If you want to be able to play actual MP3's you do need a head unit that is compatible with the format.
You can now purchase CD changers that will play MP3's for about £150, and if your head unit can control a CD changer this may be cheaper than buying a completly new unit.
Hope this helps.
