You can leave the ECU in place and still pass a speaker wire although it does depends on the thickness of the wire. Just pull off the rubber between the door and the frame, use a long screw driver with a big end to get through the rubber. Take the dash out and with the rubber off you should see some lite coming through, that where you have to pass the wire through. Once it's through the frame tie-wrap the wire to the head of the screw-driver and pull it through the rubber. Voila.
