I've got an S14a that is stock apart from a Bren device at 12-13psi. I love it, but the dead feeling to the throttle when off boost really irritates me. At low revs I just feel like I have to push the throttle far too hard to get anywhere. I previously had a tricked-up S13 and it was far better in this respect. My turbo gaskets are blowing slightly but I don't think that that is the full answer to the problem - or are they all like this? I'm going to replace the TPS to see if it helps, and the gaskets. What else can help? Decat downpipe?

Front pipe - de-cat - exhaust

After doing those I found the car was a lot lot more responive off boost.

The most notable thing I did that aided initial throttle response was an induction kit.

Cheers. I have a K&N from an S13 kicking around, any idea if that will fit the 14a?

I found that while the 'front-pipe / decat / big exhaust' route helps by improving the spooling of the turbo, it made it feel even deader while actually off boost. Now, if you floor it from standstill, it like 'we're going... pootle pootle... pi-iii-iii-cking up some speed... WHOOSH!' - not good in comparison to something fat and n/a. And that's with full boost before 3k revs.

If you've got the top hat adaptor plate that went between the AFM and the filter then yes it will. You just need to open two of the holes up slightly and make sure you fit it the right way round as the inlet hole is off center.

have you checked your timing?

No, last time I tried that I left the wires for the timing light draped over the fan, started it up, bits of timing light flying all over the garage :D

Good idea though, will see about getting it checked.
