This little cutie seems to be doing the rounds big time.

On another board I frequent,(No not that one, a football one if you must know!) large numbers of the members seem to be receiving the email containing virus.

I was just wondering if the techie types who inhabit this board know how widespread this one is. Symantec have upgraded their alert from 3 to 4 (whatever that really means)

BTW my Panda Antivirus Titanium is up to date!

Well it all depends if anyone learned from the Nimda outbreak - it's all down to user's opening attachments willy nilly from dodgy unsecure microsoft email clients http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif

The Company I work at hasn't had a problem so hopefully it's containable. As far as I know, it won't auto-run if you get it in an email, but if you run the attachment (.scr or .pif) then oh well.

If your exchange has scanmail and the latest virus definitions..shouldnt be a problem.

It wasn't so much the "don't be daft opening strange attachments", more how widespread it is.
I don't personaly know one person who got caught by Nimda,or any of the other recent well spread ones. It just seems that with this one, it really seems to be getting around.
Or is it the company I keep?

I've had it, the very same day I was looking into Antivirus software!!!

I use Eudora which seems to be a bit less suscepticle to virus' sent as attachments.

Don't know what you mean Shadwell, or are you refering to OS X? Afraid I'm still on reliable old OS 9, and the only problems I get are to do with AOL.

P.S. Does Tricky mind? http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/confused.gif

Guys, I keep getting emails from people (most of whom I know) and the emails are just blank, with "RE:" in the "subject" field. I've had about 8 of them now over the last few days.

I'm guessing this is a virus of some sort. Would I be right in saying that it's not me who has the virus but the peeps I'm getting the mails from??? Is there a way of checking?

Is this the virus you're talking about here?

Btw, I have Norton 2001 Pro and it's not saying anything. It usually brings up a window that says virus has been detected.

Cheers guys.

YEah

Sorry about that mate.

I am now clean. Took me ages to fix. Machine kept crashing.

Updated the virus checker and it found three infected files.

Is it possible to infect the ECU on a nissan with a virus? That could be interesting. Wouldn't be so much fun if it made you crash though!!!

Cheers
