Just got informed from Freeserve there putting my bill for Offpeak ( 1800-0800 and all w/end ) up from £8.99 a month to £10.99 a month ( Holy Feck !) Freeserve Anytime is £12.99 a month. What will I do upgrade for an extra £2 of change ISP ?. I have heard people talk of The free internet, the only thing is you can't stream video. What are you guys all using at home, and whats good and bed . Cheers

I use NTLworld which is free 24/7.
It's okay but not that good, if you are on BT you can buy a box from comet or currys that reroute all the calls through NTL, the only stipulation is that you make £10 per month of normal calls through the rerouter thing. Basically you pay £10 a month for free internet access but you get £10 of free normal calls.
Check out www.ntl.com. (http://www.ntl.com.)

I've also got another link directly into Uni which gives me free off peak access which is much better.

I wouldn't touch AOL with a sh***y stick, though the bird who does the ads might be worth a burl

I would recommend my ISP: Force9 http://portal.f9.net.uk/
£6.99 per month, 20 hours free per week anytime peak or offpeak, decent connection speeds, 0845 helpline that gets answered pretty quick usually. They were crap once, but have really got their act together. Only downside is the warez newsgroup feeds are incomplete (not that I would know, of course)

I've decided it's probably best not to mention I'm on DSL now through Zen Internet (and of course, going through BT's network. uh oh) - it's great when it works, fantastic, but its.. uh.. £170 a month.

Still, I was merrily talking to Paul S13 and BenTaylor on MSN while getting a cheeky 118k/sec download http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Indeed. it's a 1024/256 connection, 4 IP addresses and a router to look at (mounted under Telly, yay). Not a bad deal but I really wanted to go with Easynet (http://www.uk.easynet.net). They do 2mbit for around 139/month or something ridiculously cheap

A few of you have mentioned NTL. CAUTION! In my humble opinion they are absolutely CARP (anagram). They owed me £30 when I cancelled digital service, wouldnt pay until they collected digibox, they missed 3 appointments to collect it (ie: 3x mornings off work), when I complained they offered compensation, didn't pay it. I refused to pay my phone bill until it was sorted. Recieved threatening letters. I complained to OFTEL. Got a phonecall from C&W (as ntl was then) chief executives office... extremely apologetic... offered more compensation... not paid (surprise surprise), recieved more red letters about phone bill. Changed back to BT. The ntl fiasco finally ended about 6 months later, after many, many phone calls to the chief exec's office.

I dont know of anyone who would recommend their services, but I know a few who said they should have listened to me when I warned them.

ntl? Don't do it.

There. I feel better now.

Spiro, I dont know exactly how many hours I use, but when I first started out paying for my calls on Freeserve I got two phone bills around 190 Quid But I reckon I need about 40 a week. Just think I am paying 8.99 for offpeak access with a whopping 45.2K !( just now usually about 38. something )

Not sure about NTL modem connections, but a couple friends on NTL cable modems have informed me it's hit and miss recently - nice pings, great for gaming, but they seem to be up and down like a yoyo in some areas, loss of service every couple of days for a good couple of hours, usually at peak time.

NTL are shyte - theyve taken over the cable and wireless operation in Cambridge and I swear I have not heard anyone have a good word for them http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/rolleyes.gif
Including their employees http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
Dont do it - get freeserve anytime http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif
