Does anyone connect to the internet using NTL from home or work?

I've tried to install their wonderful (pah!) software on my new laptop but it keeps bumming out, looping etc...

I've tried to connect specifying the details through dialup networking but I don't know what telephone number to use?

Can anyone help?

A quick response would be very much appreciated.

I do, was a ****ing nightmare to set up on 2000. I have to get a mate to do it from his PC. I'd do it for you but I don't know what he did.

Basically you have to go to a page and register yourself, unfortunately you can only do this from an NTL IP address. Bugger is I dunno the URL. This way you don't have to install any of their crappy software, you just manually create a dial-up connection and enter the details of the NTL servers. You get these details when you register. I can send you a number later if you want and the DNS servers etc but unless you have a username & password you're buggered 'cos it wont let you in. I'd let you use mine but another beauty of the NTLworld thing is that the username/password is tied to the phone number. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif I suppose that that is sort of understandable 'cos it's kind of how it works (£10 per month for free internet access but you get £10 of free calls) so it's free as long as you use your phone enough for normal calls.

Let me know if you want me to do anything.

I use NTL at home, I haven't had any problems with the software, but I am still using 98 because I hated win2000, coz all my classic dos based games wouldn't work very well and I hated the fact that if you wanted to format a disk it had to be a 'recovery disk' grrrr come back win 3.11.....only kidding http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/redface.gif

I'm already registered for the NTL Internet service because I had it on my old laptop running Win Me, it was a piece of cake to setup. Once it had setup the dialup for me I also removed the crappy NTL connection toolbox thingmy!!!

NTL provide you with a connection CD, but unfortunatley it won't install on my new laptop running Win 98, f**k knows why, it just keeps looping trying to install itself.

All I need is the telephone number to put into my dialup connection, I've already got a Username & Password.

If you could post or email the tel no. later that would be brilliant.

Thanks, I'll try that later when I get home.

I thought it was an 0845 number?

I tried searching on NTL's website but couldn't find anything, useless website just like their useless £1 a minute tech support service!!!

I should of noted the number down before wiping it off my old laptop!!! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

I thought the NTL CD would work, how stupid of me.

I've done a search on NTL and dialup numbers, there's a lot of hate mail directed at NTL.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks their service is a bag of ****e.
