View Full Version : 2nd Cars???
After reading a post in General Questions by TAC, just wondering who has got a 2nd car to save their good old 2*****s?
I used to have an XR2, but just sold it, and got a Serria 1.8 TD, great mpg, and its a big car.
However its not std (does that sum me up??), its got a Cossie rear axel inc lsd, cossie suspension all round and a Cossie rack, its also got 2 stage boost, 10 psi for normal driving, and 15-16 for high boost, great on wet roundabouts http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
So comeone who else has got a 2nd car, and what is it???

ok, you can all stop laughing now.
It's a Niva 4x4, which holds the world record for a petrol engined car running at altitude, and it's the best off-roader you can get without getting involved in electronic diff control nonsense.
And I can drop a Fiat twin-cam straight in, no mods. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/tongue.gif
Niva Integrale Evo 3 anybody? http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/eek.gif
(Seriously, you need 4wd around here in winter.)
(And it cost bugger all.)

Dreadly, I've got a '78 X1/9 1300 sat in my garage in pieces. You know anywhere to get parts for these things?

Errr, yes - but not off hand. I'll get the information for the place I use and let you know.
Would those be rusty body parts or broken gearbox parts?
(I used to look after one of these, 1500 though, not quite as pretty! Used to call it the 'pirouette' as it's owner spun it so often....)
Are X1/9's expensive??
I remember a mate let me drive his one once - he was shiatting himself all the way and now wont let me drive any of his cars again http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif
Protestations of "But thats how you are supposed to drive it!!" fell on deaf ears http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif
Top fun motor though http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

For Fiat parts I last used: http://www.alternativeautos.demon.co.uk/
Not good at pasting links.
My X1/9 was not expensive at all, me and the brother in law bought it between us. But my sister doesn't like it, so I get to keep it most of the time http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif
Needs the windscreen sealing and the paint work doing, other than that she's a nice car. Pop-up lights too http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Not a Diesel M8? Seriously though, your 2***** is going to feel ultra quick when you get it finished, after driving these Vauxhalls. Same goes for after I've driven my Rover 414.

I knew there was something missing from that RR day paul - you should have bought it down and scared some of the Z boys ... http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
While Im here, I just phoned up ole matey at Option and he reckons it will be at least £1000 to get me big ends done, coz he'd need to replace the oil pump as well, and that costs £500 on its own http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/redface.gif
You were saying he'd do it for £300 - whats the crack?? http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/confused.gif

I heard (from Matt_S i think) that they changed the shells in-situ, that sounds like they quoted to take the engine out. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif
Got a '77 Celica GT in lots of bits. It will be finished though, if I can ever afford it now I got the 2*****.
He reckoned that would be the absolute minimum, and from the sounds of it they were going to do it in situ as well http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/eek.gif
He was chatting on about dropping the subframe etc - they wouldnt do this unless they were leaving the engine in, surely http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/confused.gif
Do you know this guy very well paul?? Is he likely to be bull$hittin me to get more of my money??
And I dunno what he was on about with the oil pump ..........
Paul, you really cannot appreciate how funny I find it that you are driving a .. BELMONT .. around http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif
If only I could put into words the extreme mirth a local blackpudlian townie belmont driver has caused myself and Matt_J .... http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
As of now, it looks like I will also be going the 2nd car route. Oh dear.. can you feel it? I can... and it feels suspiciously like ... E-reg Nissan Micra. Ick... ICK!!! NOOOOOO if only the T3 didn't die http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif
2nd Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0i - Lovely motor!
3rd Austin MG Metro Turbo - Genuine 78K on 1984 owned since 1989. - Its been a heartache
4th but not least the old faithful Birds 1992 K10 Micra, 0-60 in 15mins, will be quicker once I put in the Sunny ZX Twincam ( Its the motor thats faithful by the way ! )
I do have a second car... a 1.8 Zetec powered Westfield Lotus 7 replica. Even less practical then my 200! What do I do now, but a third? My 200 was supposed to be my everyday car http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

Old X1/9 = very rusty bodywork. I've been meaning to sort it out for ages, but my garage is too small and the neighbours complain every time I turn on the power tools. Have been working a lot in Germany recently which doesn't help...
My second car is also my trusty company car - A Toyotoise Avensis 1.8 petrol....
Took it off a former colleagues hands when he left as a favour to my boss at 95,000 at the end of May this year. Had been driven relatively gently for all those miles too. Pretty smooth...
That is until I got me hands on it. Since then Ive put 20,000 miles on it.
Its has had the following:
5 new tryes
new multi unit (does all sorts of things)
new speedo (£1000)
Its starting to show its age now and Ive just put in a request for a new car!
It is in dire need of a ew clutch and gearbox....
All the Full throttle shifting seems to have taken its toll http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif
Not sure wot to go for next - maybe a new primera (you seen them? Theyre MAD!)or a new Vectra maybe - ahhhh, decisions decisions....
