Just looking through a price list of parts for my car - here's a couple of the choicier bits (all prices EXCLUDING vat):

Radiator - £382.38
Turbo - £1325.67 (probably for both though)
Exhaust - £650.52
Bonnet - £862.16!
ABS ECU - £1536.89!
Cylinder head - £1249.69!
Short block - £1999.06!

and best of all

Gearbox - £5238.56!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, that's five thousand, two hundred and thirty-eight pounds and fifty-six pence for a new gearbox!

I guess you'd better not feck the ones you have then Keith. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Doubt there are that many in scrappers yet either. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

You could always buy a 200 http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Hmmm - so I could sell all 4 of my cars and buy a MkIV gearbox - now there's a scary thought http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

I was surprised the head was so little though - that's about what Toyota quoted me for a head for my MkIII

Get rid of it mate, otherwise we'll all be paying £1,250 a year for membership, just to keep your car on the road! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Peter - currently driving a non scrabbly black Cav SRi - 130.5 BHP @177K miles. Highest BHP holder at the rolling road event until they put a 200SX on the rollers...
Car now dearly departed except for...
Blitz FATT type S turbo timer and a black ally tax disc holder. Just got a traction control system now, all I want is a 200SX again...

Keith,
You'll find that its cheaper to replace the bits with performance mods rather than OE bits.
Custom rads are about £150 + vat
Carbon fibre bonnets about £900
Zorts, get a jap one for less than that

As for the rest - DONT blow it up and change the oil and filter every 3,000.

Dunno about the bottom ends on the Supes - I know they're supposed to be good for 600bhp, but the RB26 DETT engine suffers on number six bearing according to a few owners I know. S13 suffers on number 3 - at least they have something in common http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif, well sort of....

Nice car tho mate, cant wait to see it.

Dammit Spooky - you've seen through me. Yes, it's true, the whole club is a front by me to keep my car running. Everyone who went the the RR day, well, I just hypnotised you all into thinking you were there. I'm the only one who ever posts, I have 500 personalities. No but me, not even Dave, truly exists outside my mind.

Mwuahahahahahaha!!!!

Matt - I might wander along to a 1/2 way house this month - when's the next one? As for regular changes, after seeing those prices I'm doing one every time I drive it http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Those bits sound reasonably cheap considering the car. And bearing in mind the cost was 10 times what some guys here paid for their 200s, Nissan prices are not that much less.

I would imagine the service parts..discs/pads and stuff will be more of a worry than things like radiators.

A BMW with similar performance would probly cost a lot more...just pray the gearbox don't go...although a reconditioning would probly do the trick cheaper.

Yeah but the beauty of a BMW part is that you wont have to replace 'cos it wont break, unless you physically fukc it up by hitting something.

Also BMW have a sliding scale thing where parts for older cars are proportionally-ish cheaper. There is a big misconception about BMW and Merc etc that they are expensive to maintain. They aren't.

You can even buy a brand new complete engine for any BMW, I remember reading about some guy who got a brand new engine for a 635csi for £2,300 from BMW.
Can't see nissan/toyota doing that. Nissan don't even know what an S13 is.

I agree Jezz. I had a Merc and was so cheap to run it was amazing. I plucked up the courage to ask the local main dealer the cost for a complete ignition/steering lock mechanism. The guy said 1795 plus vat....I thought he was talking thousands....but was £17.95 for a huge chunk of metal.

But surely an M3 is gonna be costly on bits though?

Yeah probably.

My mate had 2 now only 1 E30 M3 and he had to replace a shock, electronically adjustable I think, was £300.

Timing chain kit is around a grand (just for the kit) and has to be done every 80k.

My old boss said his brother's BMW 750i needed an exhaust @ £2000....all kinds of sensors in it apparently...

also the 750 will shut down if not serviced at the right intervals...gives you a warning that you need to get to a BMW dealer for a service and you have so many miles to get there....

I had a mate with a M3 (the newer ones). Or he did until he rolled it at 100+ mph, taking out 200 yds of hedge in the process.
Every body panel on the car needed to be replaced (except the bootlid!!), but apparently they dont get written off if the engine still works.
Still cost 22 grand to fix mind ............
The totally incredible thing is that while his one was getting fixed, his boss let him drive his!! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/eek.gif
