Advice on buying a S15.....
I'm looking at trading my Mitsubishi FTO in for a S15 I'm just wondering if anyone can give me any info. Like any recomended dealers that can get my a s15 imported and also do a part ex on my FTO? Also any insurers you would recomend for quotes? I'm currently with tesco on the FTO and I'm not impressed with them. Also what are they like for getting parts for? From my searchs so far I can see they are pretty rare as an import, does this mean getting parts is going to be a pain or do they share many common parts with the s14 and other Nissan models?? sorry for all the dumbass newbie questions. Just wanna make sure I get a good car for my money
Thanks in advance. Oh and are there any common faults I should look out for?Howard Last edited by tilldef; 05-02-2004 at 09:50. |

Hi mate. Welcome to the Board.
![]() Take a look back at some of the older posts in this section made last year. All your questions have been answered previously. I'm sure that the S15 boys will answer again though, if you're willing to wait.

The best advice I can give, is to go and buy a Top Marques mag on Monday, look in the extreme power section, give me a ring.....then put your hand in yer sky rocket!
You must be near to me in Lancs anyway so if you want to come and have a look at it and have a chat, no problem. With coinage in your pocket will be a bonus! Nick

I'll go get a copy tomorrow, few things to sort out on the FTO 1st but I'll certainly bare it in mind.

As long as you don't need any body parts then availability is fine. engine spares are the same as the S14 a and Japan is only a boatride away, so a specialist order takes about 3-6 weeks to get to you.
so as long as you dont drive it into a wall and need it repaired quickly then you are going to be ok. Ps had a little play with an fto, just sitting behind him on the motorway, you will not be dissapointed ! I had to ease off at any speed over about 50mph so I didn't drive into the back of him. I know he was trying because of the smell and the look on his face when I went past him !! If you get one a filter and exhaust totally transforms it. go for it... /Steve Mine is also for sale but I may keep it I am driving 80 miles a day in it and it is a bit juicy but such fun

Thanks for the info Steve, looking at availability of what I want and my finances i cold have to wait a couple of months before I change anything at the moment, besides the s15 has been joined on the list now by 2 other contenders, namely the supra tt and the rx7.
Naughty Nick thanks for the info and details you have sent me of your car, bought a copy of Top Marques to have a look, your looking for a bit more than I can afford, but thanks anyway ![]() Howard |

THere is a big price difference, but then you will know where you spent that money. the spec R comes out of the wrapper with 250 ps and with a zorst and filter you should be looking at nearly 300bhp. Fitting a front mount intercooler and taking it to option for a remap will see you up to 340bhp. nice... glad you have made your mind up about the colour. My Spec R is currently up for sale 35k trust exhaust apexi filter, induction box 18" wheels but it is silver. Looking for about 15k. if not no worries but get a spec R the driving is unreal the diff is superb and in the dry has almost the same amount of grip as my old GTR 33 Vspec had off of tight bends. and once rolling will give most things serious hassle. be careful in the wet, tail happy isn't the word... /Steve |

The Spec-S doesn't have the stiffened suspension or torsion bars either. Going from an RX7 you will need that turbo punch too anyway.

Jun,
Spec-R models also come as Aero (with body kit) and non Aero. If you want an S15, I am afraid you won't have the benefit of being picky about the sunroof option. In fact, I wouldn't get hung up about what colour you are after. I've had mine for nearly 3 years now and have not seen another car....but when there are only possible 20 in the country, there isn't much chance of that is there? I can email you plenty pics and links to sites, just email me at naughty@totalise.co.uk Laters Nick

I had n R33 GTR vspec before I got the S13 then I got the S15.
The S2000 is fast becoming a popular car I tend to see a few nearly everytime I'm out. I have never seen another S15 in the flesh. I think the difference between the spec S and spec R could be described as a little more than "mod cons" for a start the spec S has no turbo at all. if you are gonna get one go for the spec R as the spec S will feel crap after getting out of the Rx7 have fun.
