Injector fitting guide.

Right guys, Before i started the job, i couldn't find any detailed guides on how to fit these, and i guess to someone whos not very technically minded, a guide is pretty valuable, so i thought i'd make one.

The job can probably be done many different ways depending on the persons experience, but the following guide is what i did and it was a success.

Firstly, i removed my front strut brace as it would obstruct the removal of the plenum.

Then, i disconnected the electrical connectors from their relavant sensors, etc. and removed tubes from and attached to the intake plenum.

Then more electrical connector disconnecting and 2-off bracket bolts that attach from the intake plenum to the head, the 1 that is labelled and there is another which is located 2/3 inches towards the cylinder head under all those electical wires and connectors (see later picture for arrow). Also, loosen jubillee clip that holds the intake rubber samco hose onto the throttle pot.

Once all the electrical and vac/coolant pipes are disconnected, loosen and remove (without loosing them in the depths of the engine bay) 5-off bolts that hold the intake plenum to the intake manifold.

another picture showing the front 2 bracket bolts between plenum and head.

2 more bolts, this time at the rear of the plenum.

disconnect 2 tubes, located towards the front of the plenum, underneath the throttle pot.

whilst i had it in bits, i was told by my geek mate that this was a BAD place to T off for a boost reading with it apparently being a very important information point for your cars engine control. so you should, like i now have is remove this and replace with a new piece of tube and tap into another boost pipe for your boost gauge, etc.

now the fun starts...

take note of the warning, soft screw contruction combined with years of being tightened up = nightmare.

carefully carefully now.... and before you ask "does the screwdriver cause damage to the fuel rail? no it doesn't.

part 2

voila:

Obviously, the reverse of the removal process to put everything back together and make sure all connectors and boost/coolant pipes are replced.
the following gives information of what parts were used:

Mind and mention if you cannot get the injector screws out you will have to take the rail out and use a pair of vice grips
If you take the rail out you will loose the 3 little shim type things that live under the bolts that hold it in, i had to send out a search party for the little buggers.

Ohh and de pressurise the fuel system first as petrol in your eyes, nose, hair and everywhere else is

Stage 2 chip was installed by Jez last week and it's now in the car...

I was round at Andy's earlier checking the timing and then setting up the AVC-R for him, it's a flying maching now!

cheers pal, yes, jez installed one of his super dooper stage 2 chips for me last week and i cant believe how a little electronic tinkering can make a car so much better, gone are the days of tuning carbs, porting and old skool tuning, all you seem to need nowadays is a laptop!!! the injector fitting was more daunting than the job actually turned out to be... very pleased with the car now.
long live the SX!

Dont reckon i'll be going to the jap meet, got things to do with the missus skyline due to it now being up for sale

OOOOOPS, have i stood on jezzys toes now making a guide!! sorry jez, just thought it'd be a nice addition to the SXOC seeing as most people have to change injectors at some point.

yeh, the job isn't as hard as you think, just keep an eye on all the bolts/connectors you remove and make sure everything goes back where it came off and you cant go wrong.

controls the fuel pressure to your engine, so a leak will result in BOOM
