    I’ll get some quotes

Progress at last! Removed the front struts, disks and calipers. Supported the front subframe on the jack

    Lowered it

Slid it out sideways. Lynxy will strip this lot down

    It's all in good condition

Can't blast the ARB droplinks so it's Deox Gel

Front Brembo's aren't worn but badly corroded

    Deox C will sort them

The plan is to refurbish the front suspension parts and sort the engine bay when the weather improves To answer your questions, the engine bay will be painted but I need to remove the front wings first I will blend the paint down the firewall, like it came out of the factory.

I have no intentions to improve the sound proofing

Great work there, as has been said before.

I had never considered derusting brake discs. I have a Volvo/ Carlton vented disc conversion that has surface rust on the bells, I may have to visit Mr Hamber

    Done

I could do to remove the front hub/bearing carrier. If I remove the nut from behind the dust shield will it just pull off? The last thing I want to do is knacker the bearing.

Thought it might be worth pointing out it’s not an overnight job. This one has been soaking for 24 hours

    This one 48 hours

I’m also taking them out and rinsing them twice a day

99.99% that the ABS sensors will break if you try and take them out.

And talking from experience, they certainly will shatter into a million pieces if you try to take them out

Yep, one fits over the exhaust just under the front bulkhead, some are for the turbo and there's the bracket that supports the elbow

What are the advantages of Galvanising these parts over plating them?

And what sort of money is involved in this kind of thing?

Is it wrong that i get way too excited by shiny parts? i think i was a magpie in a past life!

Galv is thicker than electro plating and tends to last longer. The parts were also too big for my plating tank.

In an attempt to stop the turbo elbow falling off this is what I have done. Only 1 stud is used now and the nut is a locknut. I have used a tab washer from the turbo to manifold gasket on these 2

The other 3 are wired. A loop is placed around the first bolt head and the wire is twisted, then fed through the second bolt head. Note the direction of the wire to stop the bolts coming loose

The wires are again twisted after the second bolt

A special tool is available to do this. Pliers are fine, it just takes a bit longer

The wire is fed through the last head and twisted together

    That should sort that

Has to be better than what Nissan did though – nothing When I took it apart most of the elbow studs / bolts had dropped out. There was only 1 tight bolt IIRC. The tab washers had prevented the manifold nuts falling off so I can’t see why it shouldn’t work. The wire is stainless so it won’t corrode
