Just glue it back on with something that won't dissolve in oil and use a washer to hold it all down

Nope, I broke a lug off a plastic brake pipe clip I should have known better than to over tighten a magnet as they are quite brittle For what it is, I will have to get a replacement
Gearbox mount assembled
Loads of parts have arrived at Nissan, just waiting for the hose clips and I can finish the engine

Incredible as usual dude. You going to sell it back to Nissan afterwards?
you must be insane, the work your doing on this is above and beyond what any sane person would contemplate but good work keep it up very inspiring
1998 Nissan 200sx s14a , 2000 std 5 speed with nismo supercoppermix clutch bn6 Sapphire Blue
I bet Nissan have a brand new S13, S14 and a 180 SX in storage somewhere.
The thread title got changed accordingly but even that was wrong It should have been “How to waste 2 summers and a winter”
Old wing brackets
I'm just glad I could get some new ones
I will spray some 2K over the chassis black for extra protection
Gaskets and filters

This is most certainly not a waste of time. As it inspirers people, like myself to get out there and do stuff on there car rather than playing on the playstation..
And I have to say your making a top notch job of your refurb
Loads more progress but no pics I’m afraid. Fitted new gaskets to the plenum and it’s now ready to bolt on. My main concern are leaks from the pipe work underneath it. Decided to use some of the stainless clips from the fuel lines….
A fluid leak from here would be difficult to sort once it's all built
Carbon canister pipework thanks to teh200SX

I can't even imagine how difficult that would be
OK cheers, I assume you got the catch tank?
Spraying small components can be quite tricky. It’s easy to end up with hardly any paint on one side and runs on the other. This is how I spray 2K paint on small stuff.
First coat is a dust coat and it's easy to gauge how much you have applied
Second coat is applied 10 mins later and is pretty much the same. It's still not covered
What happens is the paint starts to go gooey. It takes ages to be touch dry, but whilst it's in this gooey state you can apply a decent coat. What happens is this coat melts into the thin coats underneath. You can see the paint flow out as you spray it on
One final coat and the result
I did the same with the rocker cover bolts
This might not be how the pro's do it but I find it a good way of getting even coverage and a decent finish

Why didn't you plate these bolts and washers? That's original.
It certanly looks nice ofcource
Cheers
That rocker cover looks the business.
Not that you're probably anywhere near finishing this one, have you had any thoughts on what your next project might be?
I don't think that I will ever restore a car to this standard again. I thought long and hard before I refurbed it but did think about the RS Ford / Audi Quattro route Maybe I should be messing around with "proper" cars
A chap I know who lives just down the road runs this business

there is a guy on the passion ford forrum who you should meet, he has restored and modified his red rs turbo to a similar amount of detail and thouroughness.
it would have been better if you had done this type of restoration on something propper such as an old quatro, or 3 door cosworth etc, but the 200sx is quickly becoming more and more rare so definately not a wasted effourt,
have to say well done again as your attention to detail astounds me,
I was thinking in terms of an old Aston I really should restore a "proper car" That said I have no regrets refurbing my S14a It will be completed My S14a, despite the low mileage has visited places no other car's have seen
I posted on passion ford but got FA reply
Happy here though

How are you planning on getting those nicely painted rocker cover bolts on and more importantly tightened without damaging the paint?
There you go. He's intellejunt you know
There is a guy at the top of my road who's not long finished restoring a red RS Turbo and that looks immaculate, he stripped it down to the shell and rebuilt it. I wonder if its the same guy?
Ps Yes Pete i received my catch tank thanks. Still in its envelope currently though
