3" of quietness

Why can't someone make a 3" exhaust valve instead of the way too small apexi version and charge a highway mans fee in the process

My 1" exhaust bung is killing the car above 5000rpm

if there's nothing available that suits the requirement, make your own

can't be that hard really, its nothing more than a butterfly valve with a cable operation on really. wonder if you could bodge a throttle body in there

Would such a system damage the engine at all?

i genuinely think bodging a throttle body could work

realistically they're both the same sort of design. only work through 90 degrees, spring loaded, control the angle with a handbrake cable into the car and bobs your mothers brother. only problem i can forsee is would it stand up to the pressure, which is easily calculated, if it doesnt bodge a bit more so its held in place properly, and b) fitment, for which you could just make an adapter plate either side, bodge the throttle body's innards into it and lob it between two flanges

I see a project beckoning

Matthew
p.s. Mainly cos i'm fed up of the bung, but not fed up enough to pay £125 for one branded Apexi

lol... guess i'll need a bit more than a mini's HIF carb hehe

Would have to be stainless and readily available + cheap (so that other members could do it easily)

Have you already got a full complement of decent silencers?

Mines down to between 88 and 90 db at 5000 rpm which is pretty quite Its a full 3 inch system and wont restrict power

I thought a whileago about an Infinity (Q45) throttle body as they're 80mm ish plus but you'd obviously have to change the throttle plate for a stainless one and it probably wouldn't be any cheaper than buying an Apexi EVC from Japan in the end.

Heres a proper Apexi one anyway http://www.nengun.com/catalogue/product/239

As SteA has said, just add a silencer, both me and Ste have, works wonders, improves the exhaust note and makes it less noisy, winning all round.
Arse Dyno says its the same power, we dont use ear Dyno's that can cause you to think you have lost power. We both have triple-box systems.

Whats your current exhaust?

I have found exactly what you need mate, it is mate by apexi and slips inside the tailpipe, at low to medium revs it acts like a usual bung but at high revs the spring loaded valve opens up to remove the bung effect, the best of both worlds, have a look on the newera parts site for it mate as i just did

3" Cat back plus 3" decat. Exhaust is from 2fast2cool on ebay, and is 'fairly' loud. I believe it has 2 silencers (1 very small expansion chamber and then the main box). Perhaps your right and I should go for a decat silencer. What i am really trying to avoid is the bit when i turn up an 1am in the morning and wake the neighbours up with my burbling exhaust on idle (they have mentioned it wakes them up ) The bung stops this but it kills the car's performance esp at higher revs.

I think a 2.5" system would be quieter

My car is stupidly loud... But no one has complained ever..

Why worry about your neighbours anyway? They probably have kids who play with footballs etc near your car, one of them is "the lawnmower man" and I would be willing to bet that several of them have dogs that go mental if someone so much as sneezes near their house...

We've all got to get along together, if they ever complain about your exhaust, pick one of the noisy reasons above as to where they can shove it

... I think I got up the wrong side of bed

Matt stop being such a big and take that crappy bung out!

I have exactly the same exhaust as you and i wish it was louder, i really dont think its loud at all. Im running S/S manifold, 3" front pipe, 3" sports silencer and then 3" all the way back.

And i regulary come back from work a 2am + im the morning with no problem from the neighbours

Adam
