Thought I'd give you some feedback on who I've tried from this list to insure my R32 GTS-t.

The most common problem was them telling me that it has a 2.5 litre engine when it's quite evident to me, since it's my car (or will be) that it's actually a 2.0. Having explained this several times to them, they usually say something along the lines of "oh, well we can't insure that".

See comments in bold

Adrian Flux: 08700 777888 (Good prices, SXOC member discount, like-for-like on mods) - absolutely awful service as usual, took ALL the details, put me on hold for ages, then came back with a quote £900 over A Plans, so I told them this, on hold again, they came back with a quote £850 over A Plans, so all in all a good 45 mins wasted

Direct Line: 0845 246 6246 - Part of RBS and surprise surprise, need a TRACKER fitted on a £3k car, because RBS own Tracker This one really pissed me off because I got all the way through the quote before they told me that I'd need a tracker, if they'd have said it at the vehicle details stage I'd have told them to shove it and saved myself the afternoon

Hyperformance: 0800 458 3150 - this number didn't give me HP, gave me some other company - they were rubbish Another "oh we can't insure this because it doesn't exist"

Keith Michaels: 0208 2880801 - The best so far, VERY willing to help, calling me back tomorrow with a quote

MCE Insurance: 0870 9090911 (Good prices, like-for-like on mods) - Ended up putting the phone down on a poor girl (admittedly it wasn't her fault) who was very inexperienced and was taking direction from a bloke standing behind her which was completely unprofessional, and unhelpful. AVOID. - RETRACTED, KIZ HELPED OUT AND THEY WELL AND TRULY REDEEMED THEMSELVES

Norwich Union Direct: 0800 092 9564 - Some fecking indian call centre who would insure me on a GTR but wouldn't insure me on a GTST cos apparently it doesn't appear on their system and they don't have underwriters with any information

Privilege: 0845 246 0303 - Ditto Direct Line, one and same company and part of RBS

Sky Insurance: 0870 112 1759 (Good prices, like-for-like on mods and agreed value) - Had to wait over 4 hours for a call back but reasonable service when they did, not competitive though = well over.

Tesco: 08453 004400 - Part of RBS
Some others I tried:
Greenlight - don't look to do imports
Swinton - waff quote
Someone else I'll fill in the details of tomorrow

All in all, a very frustrating day's work and no further forward. Very frustrating indeed just how many insurers couldn't locate the vehicle on their system and thus just decided to no quote, or say "what's your lowest quote" and then "nah we can't beat that" without even asking my age

Basildon Insurance: 0800 652 3963 - spoke to a young girl named Becki, EXTREMELY helpful, and a good quote at £850 ish

Hyperformance: 0800 458 3150 - I called another number today and spoke to Alan and Alan, who passed me through to someone else, who said no, then passed me through to someone else, who said hang on let me pass you through to Hyperformance

If Insurance Factory: 0870 777 8181 - didn't want to know and just said oh at least £££££ bye

Keith Michaels: 0208 2880801 - GARY came back to me indeed, VERY helpful - a touch out of the water at £890 but he did his level best and did his best to explain why the quote was high.

Masterquote: 08702 411572 - just plain couldn't be bothered - car doesn't appear on system and there's nothign we can do about that, apparently

MCE Insurance: 0870 9090911 (Good prices, like-for-like on mods) - Kiz called me today after I dropped him a PM and was very understanding and knowledgeable - all previous comments withdrawn as they've well and truly redeemed themselves - just waiting for the quote now.

Osbourne and Sons: 0845 330 6001 - ditto Masterquote, couldn't be bothered.

Sharp: 01635 580618 - only have one market for imported cars, NU, and since just about all of the above companies that have been quoting use NU, you may just as well not bother.

Tett Hamilton: 01275 792270 - constantly engaged, will keep trying - Edit: Finally got through - said "can you cover imports to which the reply was "we're specialists" ok then I say, can you cover an R32 GTS-t - to which the reply - "is that the 2.5?" No, oh well we can't insure it then sorry. Some bloody specialist
Some others:
Houghtons - 01582 867763 - the Zed boys use these and they DO cover imports - guy was very knowledable and willing to help - is calling me back, I will inform you of how it goes.

Just to update this. MCE still don't offer Agreed Values on imports. Like-for-like, but not Agreed Value.

So Sky still have the upper hand for the S15 guys...

Just spoke to A-Plan and Keith Michaels today. VERY impressed with the service from both.

Quotes were similar between the two, both done on an import PS13 with 300bhp, turbo, exhaust and intake modifications listed, suspension upgrade and wheels. Both came out at £400 as is and approx £450-475 with roll cage.

Thats 25YO, 5Y NCB.

Just had some very reasonable quotes through Adrian flux and A-plan. But sky proved to be the cheapest (albeit a few quid)

limited mileage on a modified 180sx, I'm 25, 4 yrs no claims fully comp all for £450. Happy days :-D
