    *** Steering Tip ***

I have spoken to the guys at the Nissan workshop and they have all pointed me to something.

Now, I know we got the stainless steering coupling, and that helps to improve the S13's dreadfully sloppy steering.

But there is also a MAJOR MAJOR improvement to be had for as little time and money as the stainless disc.

    The steering rack bushes!!!

All the guys say that when they do MOT's they notice the rack bushes are worn on nearly every S13 they comer across, including mine!!

Turns out that Nissan have actually changed the part since she was manufactured, I now have the two new bushes and all for less than £20!!!!!!!

Do you have the part numbers?

Nismo do some as well but they are £65 for the pair from TDi.

    Then you'd imagine wrong!!

They are different, one is flexible vibration bush and the other (35F00) is a rigid mounting bush.

    Different material, shape and flexibilty.

I haven't got the screen up here (at work) but when I ordered the parts I got the numbers off FAST and was confirmed by the parts department as being 2 different numbers!!

They are on the steering page, then you can see the two bushes next to each other on the exploded diagram, they have different numbers.

The bushes go around the steering rack, one at either end, and keep it firmly against the chassis.

As they wear with age or poor design (as may be the case here), they lose their ability to hold on tight to the rack and while also keeping vibration etc to a minimum.

Just like with the stainless column coupling disc, renewing these will help to improve steering response. As when you move the steering wheel, instead of the rack moving side to side half an inch, the wheels will move half an inch.

Also it helps with instability at high speed by keeping the wheels pointing where they should at all times.

I asked if Powerflex and/or Wjiteline do them, but they dont?
