    NOOOOOOO

Just rang the garage up and they've found a HUGE crack in the manifold around number4 branch (thanks for that Steve ) and the whiney noise appears to be not the power steering pump but something in the engine itself. The mechanic thinks it may be the timing chain He's gonna ring back this afternoon

Yeah thats the right price but it's a little far away Although there are NO other S14s in autotrader at the moment that are withing 90 miles with low mileage or not AUTO.

Well, having thought about it (and consulting a respected source )

I might as well get this one It's just what I want and the likelyhood of other S14s having this problem is high if it's an engineering fault. We will see when he rings back later though.

Oooh, you didnt say the whine could be the timing chain!!!

No way should there be a whine from a chain.

Find out exactly what the whine turns out to be before you make any decisions.

well he said belt but what with there not being one I assumed chain. Maybe he meant a different belt. I'll find out when he rings me (if he does )
