Hi, The website with instructions is back up ... Let me know what you think.
I think thats a pretty impressive idea for S14 owners.... cheap too but not sure about using expanding foam
The expanding foam just fills the gap between the smaller CRX and the larger standard units. Grips it in well too. If you wanted you could use releasing agent on the indicator and remove it after the foam sets, then insert plasplugs but I don't think its necessary. A lot of bumpers use expanding foam.
Nice one... I am halfway through modding a set of original orange ones using plastic ceiling light covers, but it is always going to look like a bodge job if I do it
ebay here I come !
Its a fast mod. Took only 30 mins to do the pair...
Hi Mark, thanks for that. Only problem with referencing this post is that I can't leave the instructions on my website for too long.
Fitting Crystal Clear Indicators to S14
This may work for the S14a, but someone will have to check.
1. Purchase a pair of Crystal Clear Bumper indicators for a 1988/89 Honda CRX. These are freely available on eBay and should cost approx £12.50 plus shipping. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...sPageName=WDVW
2. There is one modification to make to allow the 200SX bulb holder to fit.
3. Unscrew and remove the lens. Using a file, widen the opening slightly and either cut or file the new locating lug positions. These new positions can be marked by inking the lugs on the light holder and pressing it against the receiver.
4. Purchase some foam draught excluder, black is best but any dark colour will do as you can use a black permanent marker to darken the visible edges. Wrap this twice around the indicator light closest to the lens, making sure not to cover the lens. Add a 5 cm piece to each of the narrow ends. This will ensure a tight fit when installing.
5. Clean the indicator opening in the bumper with soapy water. Check the indicator for fit. It does not need to be tight, so long as it stays in place. Dampen the opening slightly with water.
6. Fix the indicator in place and adjust until the desired position is found. Now using expanding foam spray fill the section around the indicator assembly with foam. Access can be had from the foglight aperture or by removing the inner wing plastic shield. Only use a small amount of foam as it expands up to 150% of its size. This will hold the indicator assembly in place and will not be easy to remove. Access to change the bulb is through the removable lens.
NOTE: The expanding foam is extremely stick and gloves should be worn (usually supplied in cap with foam can).
7. Do not drive the car for at least 3 hours, more if very cold. All that’s left is to install amber or mirrored indicator bulbs.
Great stuff Mark. Thanks a bunch
It probably won't look very good on an S14a. There's about an inch difference in unit length.
There may be a better indicator unit for the 14a and can be fited in same manner.
