    My 1999 Jaguar XJ8 4.0 V8 Sovereign - £2000

    A quick heads up.

Its done me proud as daily driver these last twelve months and 12K miles but the insurance is due Saturday so I'd like to get rid quick before I have to renew.

I'm selling this as it looks like I've found a new car and there is no room on the drive.

It'll be going on ebay tomorrow for a bit more than the £2000 above but thought I'd give you guys first refusal.

If you have any questions, give me a call on 07880 782540 or drop me a PM and I'll be scrupulously honest with you about the car.

Here's the ad I'll be putting up...

    Price : £2200

I bought this LWB Jaguar XJ8 4.0 Sovereign X308 just about 12 months ago as a daily driver so that I could do some work on one of my other cars and it’s been a grand car.

As per standard Jaguar fitment, you get full leather, legs out seating position, loads of room and sumptuous carpets.

Luxury features on this car include
    • Carphone, cruise and audio controls on steering wheel
    • Massive legroom in the rear
    • Climate Control
    • 18-way seat adjustment including electric headrest adjustment
    • 3-memory seating position on drivers seat
    • Electric steering column adjustment – in and out and up down
    • Folding mirrors
    • Auto tinting mirrors
    • Cruise Control
    • Auto audio volume increase at speed
    • Period Jaguar mobile phone in centre console
    • Passenger seat adjustable from rear for more legroom
    • Original stereo with 6-CD changer, tape, radio and Carphone controls
    • Parking sensors
    • Automatic lights
    • Sports mode !
    • Loads more that I can’t remember

I spent quite a long time looking for the right, rust-free car as I’m quite fussy about the way a car looks and eventually came across this lovely blue LWB model with cream interior which had 101K miles on the clock. The interior is amazing for a car of this age/mileage (as you can see from the photo of the driver’s seat) and it has all the toys short of satnav. Even the Jaguar mobile works superbly as a hands-free car phone. 

It came with a pretty thick file of history and I’ve got receipts for all the parts and work done.

When I got it, it wasn’t perfect – it had issues with the cooling, the camchains hadn’t been done and the paintwork on the bumpers was lacking a bit of lacquer but overall, it been lovely and recently sailed through its MOT with a single advisory for a rear wheel bearing.

I sorted the cooling issues by replacing the plastic cooling tower with an alloy one, replacing the water pump, thermostat and crossover pipes and, of course, the coolant and it now warms up quickly, sits bang in the middle of the gauge and doesn’t lose any coolant.

The camchains is a major job required due to a design flaw with the original parts on all pre-2002 V8s and costs over a thousand pounds to do. I had the camchains, guides and all tensioners professionally replaced by Les Pauls using the upgraded metal tensioners so no worries there.

I haven’t done anything with the paintwork apart from a polish and keeping it clean. As you can see in the pictures, the car looks great from a distance and even close up. If you look closely (less than 2 feet), you can see the faults but, if you felt the need, £500 to properly respray front and rear bumpers and a minor wheel refurb would leave it looking fantastic.

Since getting the initial work done on it, I’ve had 11K miles of trouble-free, luxury motoring and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.

Best fuel figures I got was 28 mpg on a 750-mile run to Cornwall and back. Apart from that, I’ve always got 22 mpg for my mixed dual-carriageway and stop-start traffic jam commute.

It is booked in for a service on Tuesday so will be running fresh oil and anything else it is in imminent need of.

The reason I’m selling it is basically down to parenthood.

I have a 17 yr old daughter that wants to learn to drive. None of the three cars I currently own are practical learner cars and I have no more room in the garage or on the drive so something has to go.

So, if you are looking for a bargain luxo barge in the best colours with loads of toys and a lovely comfortable drive, look no further than a specced up XJ8.

The car is for sale elsewhere so I may remove it from sale at any point.

I’ve been as honest as I can and ideally I’m looking for a quick sale for space reasons so feel free to make me an offer but please…if you are looking to take advantage, please look elsewhere.

Sold and gone for 1800 quid.

Really please I owned it. It was a pleasure to drive but it was the car I least wanted to keep and there wasn't anywhere to put it.

    1st world problems, huh !

Just going out to take a few pics of the new one. Don't get your hopes up too high though, Craig, it had to be learner friendly.
