That's squeaky clean in there
1998 Nissan 200sx s14a , 2000 std 5 speed with nismo supercoppermix clutch bn6 Sapphire Blue
Perhaps then someone fitted that idler and it had a anti rust coating that they forgot to clean off?
I doubt it's had a new idler as it's only done 25K miles. I don't think it's anything to worry about, I'll just clean it up
Prepping a few engine brackets ready for a repaint, these just need blasting
Deox tank works slow when it's cold
Front bumper upper bracket is two pressed steel plates spot welded together.
The problem here is the seams are quite deep and can harbor rust. These are the spot welds
Spot welds can be drilled out with special drills. 6 & 8mm are the only sizes I have ever needed
Don't buy cheap drills though as they only last two minutes Branded stuff FTW
It's just a case of drilling through one skin. I will plug weld this back together
Opened up to find this
Never a dull moment huh

Wow, I'd of left that piece seeing as it looked decent
1998 Nissan 200sx s14a , 2000 std 5 speed with nismo supercoppermix clutch bn6 Sapphire Blue
Mine was the same only a bit frilly in places too once I'd Deoxy-ed it.
I replaced it with a new OEM item that I resprayed with zinc primer and a couple of coats of good quality black paint in the hope that it will last another 20 odd years
IIRC, it was about £60 including the VAT.
I'm sure it will last more than another 20 odd years
Cleaned the paint off the rockers + other stuff on the to do list
Surprised I got the heat shields off the manifold
I can't do much with these, the main shield is spot welded together so will have to fit it as is.
I'm trying to be a bit sympathetic on this refurb, keeping a bit of originality.
Everything else is being cleaned up "proper"

Can't believe how much rust was in that seam, especially seeing as it looked decent from the outside! Cracking work Pete
What paint did you use for the cam covers?
I've only just got to look at those pictures of the cam belt and the deposits. I reckon its from the car being sat for a time and the belt has partly welded itself to the roller. Once the car was restarted, bits of the belt have come away on the roller.
I'd just clean the roller off and replace the belt.
