    turbo not spooling

i recently brought another car for family use and today the car started to play up, it didnt want to accelerate past 3000 rpm.
i noticed the turbo was not running at this point, then a little while later it started to work again and the car ran fine.
my question is what could the fault be. i work during the day and my wife works nights so cant afford to have the car off the road to long.

the car is a mitsubishi carisma 2002 1.9 di d
any help would be much appreciated

I don't know if the Carisma uses Mitsubishi, Volvo, or Renault engine, but the problem sounds electrical.

If it uses the 1.9dci renault engine(same as the Nissan Primastar vans which im familiar with) then the first two areas I would look at are

1 . Air Flow Meter , faulty ones cause poor running and you wont achieve boost.

    2. Wastegate Control Valve ( Boost Solenoid )

    Both are common failures

    turbo not spooling

Check the very thin boost control pipes that are very easy to disconnect. I had the same problem with my passat 1.9tdi and it was those.
