Question Help! Looking to buy a 14a.

    Hey guys,

I have loved the S14a for years now and i am finally in a financial state to afford one

I have found one in my town for £3500, pushing 300BHP witha dyno print

Anything i need to look out for?

    Has done 144K miles

    Has full Serv history etc.

    Cheers!

There are plenty of threads that cover every aspect of buying and owning these cars. You just need to use the search function

Aha, I think he said there was a small amount of rust on the arches, but i expect i can repair that

Thanks Mel, will take a gander when i get back from work

Is 144K miles a worry? My current car that is a Corolla T-sport, so that mileage is still running it in aha
Small amounts of rust around the top on the shocks at the front, but only surface

The Pros out run the Cons by far, apart from the wheels what are disgusting

Rust is the biggest worry with any old nissan.

If it has rusty arches it is more than likely to have rusty sills and maybe other parts unless it has rcently been repaired. check it isnt just covered in underseal as this can be used to hide problems. other than that its the usual with any car check it runs okay and drives well with no odd noises etc. But as said check the buying guides for before you buy anything

Wouldn't worry about mileage, care more about rust and regular oil changes

Mate go and view it you need to press the sills all the way down really hard see if it goes through or it flexs as it shouldn't go it. Check both the inner and outer. Also have a good go at the floors next to the sills and the front and rear.

Next place is at the front of the rears arches you will find a boomerang looking plate from the subframe to the body try pressing the part nearest the sill that it bolts too.

Wheel arches and tops of the suspension towers again don't just look push it with a thumb or something strong.

    The spare wheel well.

If you can wwait for a while i would really lookout importing one unless your very competent with a welder and working with sheet metal.

there a good amount of info in the advert, talks about rust thats been fixed so you could be onto a winner there, might be an idea to work out who the owners were before this chap, talks previous owners being members here which is a good thing, you might be able to get a bit more background on it if your lucky.

I just read te advert better i'd leave it the advert says it's got rust and hesitation.

The best advise you will get it buy one that's already storted yeah might cost you a little bit but you could end up with a 1000 quid bill just for thee welding.
There a few in the for selection owned by good member's that are a bit ott about looking after the cars

You could do with adding the front of the sills and floor to that list.

I wouldn't buy that car. It has had a lot of rust repaired which means there could still be more. It's a high miler that isn't running right. Least desirable colour. Why are they selling it and keeping the other one? Alarm bells. Saying all that, it's got quite a few toys. I think it would be better to buy one without problems so you don't dilute the ownership experience. Just my 2p.
