You've got to love the brass neck the French Government has.

"We've favoured Diesel engines for many years, now we're going to tax the crap out of people for driving them to attempt to force them onto other engines"

I wonder if they'll even make it to the next election??

Not true due to fuel tax.

Im sorry but this is a load of BS, governments know pollution has nothing to do with us, we are a drop in the ocean compared to shipping and aviation industries. We could all drive water powered fairy dust cars and it wouldnt make a difference.

Most large cargo vessels are powered by bunker fuel also known as Heavy Fuel Oil which contains much higher sulphur levels than diesel but knowone ever mentions that do they.

Why because too many fat rich oil tycoons have too much to loose if they stopped using the flith they power industry with.

I love it .... its a great idea ... if every country effectively forced people into buying a new car, it would kickstart the economy again something chronic.

this might just be the catalyst that gets things moving ... as long as they dont half arse it ... they need to make sure anyone that "can" afford to buy a new car does so

The tax money generated doesn't go back into the roads anyway, so it's all a moot point.
As it is the money all go's to the exchequer and gets pissed away on whatever retarded scheme the government thinks is a good idea.

Like building a tunnel under stone henge, or spending billions installing one ****ing train line that no **** will ever be able to afford to use.

I love the thought process tho.

They've made a right state of their economy, and pushed a load of high earning people out due to moronic taxation.
They now want to stick it to every person in the country by ranking up taxes on their vehicles.

They can't even afford to buy a new one, cos the economy has stagnated and money is tight.
