    Yeah, not really
Oh, and I meant friction plate, I'm a dullard.
Also found that the two gearbox dowels were missing, presumably from what appears to have been when the box was off before and rebuilt, (has a 182 diff in it) and the new clutch installed and so the box wasn't actually located, only held on by the bolts.
I'd guess the clutch that snuffed it (LUK) only had a few K on it - tons of meat left. Pure mechanical failure.

On the plus side, all the horrible knocks when coming on and off the power are now gone, presumably because the clutch is actually in the number of pieces it should be, and the box is properly held in place against the bottom end...

I think I'm going to buy a Celica instead. I have not been convinced about French cars

If there were no dowels in the box then it wouldnt have been sitting square which would have put a side load on the box bearings and the clutch.

A mate bought a Gen7 Celica recently. It shat it's bottom end after 4 days

    Haha! 140 by any chance?

From looking at the receipts it looks like this clutch has lasted a mighty 25k or so.

Mark, that's a very interesting theory, and makes total sense...

I don't think having the dowels missing would beast the clutch to death. the box is still going to sit flush when it is bolted upto the block. plenty of people take them out to help fit boxes easier. id say it was 25k of abuse that killed it. were the fingers on the pressure plate all level? what was the wear on the pressure plate disc like?
