VAG ECU's
Hi all
A friend of mine has a Skoda Octavia VRS standard volkwagen 1.8 turbo that seems to appear in far too many cars these days. Anyway someone on the Briskoda forum has told him that they have a generic map that they can flash onto his ECU to push a bit more power. Firstly his power claims are ridiculous. Its mapped for just an intake a straight through exhaust and he claims 220-230bhp..... But besides the point. He says that the map controls the N75 to allow 20psi of boost... On a standard K03s turbo that seems like a lot! And secondly he reckons he can also add another map for slightly more money that means he can use anti-lag and launch control with no additional hardware at all. Is it just me or does that seem like a ridiculous claim?? Either he is sprouting some serious BS or the VAG ECU's are a lot more powerful than I thought!!
Obviously I have told him not to go near it with a barge pole but he is being drawn in by getting his car mapped for £70 (or £100 with ALS and LC )
Can anyone back up my suspicions that this guy is full of it. He does own a garage that specialises in VAG cars but I still don't trust him!

Sounds about right to me. A3/mk4s with the 1.8t and a ko3s can do around 230-240 with those mods and a remap.
Yes they also run lots of boost, and anti lag and launch control are also possible in a remap, they can also remap the fly by wire throttle for better throttle inputs.
Perfectly normal, the 225 cars can go to 270-280ish from a good map.

Thanks for the reply dude. I used to have a Leon Cupra R with the same engine and as you said got 265 from light mods and a remap but that has a K04 turbo I didn't think the K03s would make that much boost. I just looked into the anti-lag/launch control and its a very very basic system. It basically turns off the ignition above a certain rpm when under a certain speed. So you cant even turn it off! So its full bore start or granny start every time! Not sure I would want that but each to their own. Thanks for the input dude!
