    Tyre Fitment

Would a 235/40/18 tyre be the same size on the wheel as 225/35/18?

I have the latter on my car but the tyres I want to replace them with only come in 235/40/18. My wheels are 9J. I tried to fit bigger tyres ages ago but the fitter said it might catch, but I have rock hard suspension so I doubt that.

Sorry if this is silly question

    Front

    Rear

See how the fronts have a bigger sidewall

    this will help:

Also I would check the specification of the old vs new tyres, some brands are different to others in size, despite having the same thing written on the side... a 225/40/18 Falken for example is narrower than a 225/40/18 Yokohama...

The 235/40s will have a bigger sidewall dude - about 15mm difference in radius.

its true some tyres are wider. for example a 225/45/17 a048 is massive compared to a 225 non semi slick. me and a mate bought like 60 remoulded tyres all the same size, when we lay them flat on the ground you could see some were getting on for being 20mm wider than others.
