Is it original turbo you ran before or replacement? It could be turbo seals.

You shouldn't have any smoke at all. Something is clearly wrong. As above the turbo might be gone.

Rebuilt mine a couple of months ago and I had no smoke, and still have no smoke.

If its just when cold, could just be condensation? Smoke is normally blue for burning oil (i.e. turbo seals)

Turbo seals can look like white smoke apparently. Also the guy says lots of smoke so I doubt it's condensation.

Your most likely right that its not condensation, especially if its alot. Just try8ng to add the possibility of it not being doom and gloom hah

Just showed the guy who rebuilt the engine he is still insisting that this is normal..and it will do it till 1000 miles..he said the pistons still need to settle down..and it is a part of run in process

I have made a video..please have a look..im not a mechanic So dont know if the guy is right

Watch "S13 engine rebuilt white smoke" on YouTube - S13 engine rebuilt white smoke: http://youtu.be/nKkGyQs__PQ

The turbo was in good condition and it is garrette t28 turbo

I'd check the coolant level as Jonny suggested and might be time to do a compression test to check if the motor is good
you could unbolt the down pipe and check inside the elbow for signs of oil as a way of checking turbo oil seals
if you get the elbow off you could check for a tell tale line of oil weeping out the exhaust wheel + the wheel could
be wet and oily as well

Looks like oil smoke from tubby seals. Irrelevant that the turbo looked in good condition i had a rebuilt t28 that smoked so bought t28r.
Have you tried one way valve trick?
The guy that built the engine is feeding you bullcrap a rebuilt engine shouldnt smoke regardless.

when my turbo seals went it smoked on idle only because of the vacuum in the exhaust drawing oil through the seals, that seems the get worse when revved, id say get a compression test it could possibly be piston rings or head gasket (was the head and block skimmed) maybe stem seals

How long was the turbo sat idle for while or before the engine was being rebuilt?

If a long time > 6 months, the oil dries out and then the seal sticks and lets oil pass.

Dropped the car back to the guy.. showed him this forum and he agreed their is something wrong with the car

He is saying the turbo is spot on and the only reason it could be smoking is of stem seal valves. He is going to open everything tomorrow and get new head gasket and skim the head and get new stem seal valves.

    Lets hope it gets fixed

It's strange that he would rebuild an engine without replacing the head gasket.

If it was a metal head gasket, it would not be unreasonable to reuse it.
