power-crazed Head-Mod
I inflated the tyres on Sunday and took for an hour drive, pulled over and over heated.
Have Friday off work to find fault and fix. Will bodge and make it :P
Well, I'm out
Blew my turbo a few months back and haven't managed to get a replacement yet and have no intercooler pipes. That isn't what's stopping me going though, as that could all be put right in a couple of hours by way of just chucking on a t28. I have no tow vehicle as our jeep packed in (yes Mark, the Frontera) and can't see me getting a replacement before the weekend. Add to that I've had to shell out quite a lot of money this month as it is I cant really afford to take a week off work, having been off on holiday for a week already at the end of last month. Oh well, 2015 then.
Can you blag a lift to/from Glasgow Stu? I have a passenger seat...
I need to put petrol in mine, FML
Skyline isn't gonna be ready in time (still being painted and then there's engine work to be done too).
So went out and bought myself a car yesterday so I can still at least get to the weekender!
Renault Laguna Initiale estate 3.0 v6, 210bhp so might throw it round the track for a few laps
bovvered?
My brake upgrades - Fluids - oils arrived just now so busy busy fitting and fettling ahead
My car is now seriously touch and go... clutch cable is not playing ball on the dyno! I cant get there to poke it, and the chap doing the work is booked solid and might not have time to make it fixed!
Buy car two weeks ago
A very original Renault 5 GT Turbo with just 78k on the clock and 3 owners from new.
Have it transported to a garage to have it recommissioned as it's not been driven much more than 1500 miles in 3 years. Still needs front springs and 4 tyres for me to be happy. (Fronts are not the OE springs so it sits too high and the tyres are all old or incorrect sizes. But I can sort that (I think!?)
Get 1 mile out of there and a water hose pops.
Go back to garage and sort.
Drive home, sitting for over 80 mins trying to get through the tunnel. Water hoses ok then!?
Get into Essex and crank it up a bit. Notice it pops out of fifth gear if you go on off throttle.
Then something falls off the car!
Today, after a few phone calls and orders, springs en route and hopefully tyres too.
So I battle wrestling the end of the gearbox off as apparently these little French cars like to loosen their fifth gear fork nut off...
A few hours later and it's done. The nut concerned (the top one) was literally so loose I think I could have moved it with mind power... It literally just spun!
I still don't know what dropped off but I think it was an exhaust harmonic rubber. I had to knock wheel weights ioff the wheels as they had been put in incorrectly and hit the calipers. It shook like fcuk all the way home for 100 miles!
The rubber was there yesterday when I left and now it isn't from what I can see. But I can see a shiney washer, which it suspect was a bracket this time on Monday!
So, tomorrow I lick up the springs and hopefully fit tomorrow afternoon. Then the tyres are due Friday. If not, I may have a plan B of borrowing a set of a local lad.
So all being well, I'll be there in it. (And not in a Passat)
Brilliant.
Looking forward to seeing this.
(every fecking thing crossed)
Stripped car down on sunday, replced radiator, drained oil. Still to come as had some issues: refit turbo when new manifold studs and gasket turn up (hopefully today), oil and water to then fill up, change brake fluid if we have time and some type of pikey alignment needs to happen on the rear cus it rubs slightly
I've just seen this! Lol but glad to see everyone's cars are coming together.
Left a couple of things a bit late myself (mainly due to being skint!)
Anybody any good with Link g4's coming to the weekender? My mapper is otherwise pre-occupied with rebuilding his own car after a recent off
Well, the new springs are on!
The guy I used it do the re commissioning work said to me earlier "if you can work on Nissans and you've tackled the gearbox, you'll piss the springs...." Fcuking famous last words! But it got done and they're on. Hopefully the struts work right, as they don't have a proper bearing as such. And the ride height looks sweet now.
Tomorrow I hope to have 4 tyres delivered and I'll get them thrown on. The it's just a case of swapping the gear oil out. I realised I put a litre if fully synthetic in there and that's a no no apparently....
