I want to run different bhp in the escort to make it more useable as and when I need it, so I'm looking for maybe 250/350/400 settings as I want to run it on the street/drift/drag/hillclimb and maybe some rally's so it'd be nice to switch power, can you have many power settings or would it be down to a boost controller? I don't know much about that side of the car.

Has to be done I'm afraid! If you like I could always use a vauxhall engine to put back in the 200!!! Or the original crossflow from an escort!

    Don't you dare

    Welcome Barclay
You've probably already read that tinnysteve is starting an equally heinous project with a 2dr Mk1 Escrot.

re the switchable power settings, modern boost controllers have some very fancy features and can easily limit boost to say 250bhp, but I'm thinking the car won't run the way you want it to.
The big turbo that is needed for a 400bhp drag strip, is going to quite laggy when used on something like a twisty rally stage whether limited to 250bhp or not. And vice vera.
250 to 400bhp is a big range to cover with one set of hardware, even with clever electronics controlling it.

There are many people on this forum who know more than I do about such things.

Thanks bud, appreciate the advice, I can understand its a big range, 150bhp is a lot of difference. I really would like to hit 400bhp but I want the car to be useable on the road and for other events. Thanks

    Hello

You will probably find stage 2 and 300bhp is ample for a Mk1 Escort otherwise you are going to have a lot of trouble making it go straight

    Where is Essexshire are you?

I think 300bhp will be crazy in an escort, more than enough power but on the occasions when I take it down the strip I'd like to lay down some great runs, ideally I'd like to get in the 11's but I'm not sure what that would take to make it yet. What sort of times do 200's make when tuned?
There's an escort with a yb in classic ford this month running 240bhp and can switch to 330bhp.
Im living in kent atm but moving back to Essex In the next few months hopefully as I work in barking and my family all live around Essex so spend most my time there. Hope to move around the upminster/brentwood area probably, I come from around that way and my family live in hornchurch/upminster/brentwood . Where abouts are you mate?

switchable power levels seems kinda pointless (apart from "bragging rights" perhaps, maybe) just don't put your foot down as far

    welcome anyway mate
