    Hylomar on Turbo/Exhaust

So I've made my M10 titanium studs, ordered my M10 aero nuts and genuine gasket.

Now I'm thinking do I want to use a dab of some form of sealant as well?

Perhaps some Hylomar on the studs when I put those in (rather then welding) and some on both sides of the gasket?

I'm in two minds wether to weld the studs in or not as it could warp the exhaust manifold flange.

    Discuss!

None of this is going to make a blind bit of difference if you haven't checked and measured the manifold flanges on the exhaust and turbo. I hope I don't sound rude, but you're doing so much in the way of new/strange things when the regular, conventional fittings work very well for many people.

Checked and measured for what..? The surfaces are flat and true.

The conventional way is the way I went several months ago and it hasn't lasted.

As said mate, you need to make sure both turbo and manifold facings are perfectly flat , as it doesn't matter what size bolts are in their it will just end up blowing again. Also a flexi in the system is a must imo as mine has been blown seen fitting one

Also do you have the elbow-gearbox brace on still?!?

Hylomar works to 250C so will last about 30 secs in an exhaust manifold.

Exhaust manifolds glow cherry red on full throttle so tack welding some studs in isnt going to warp it.

Titanium studs? Errr, titanium is a very stretchy material.

You want decent inconel ones if you're doing a proper job.
    And yeah, Hylomar will disappear.

Hylomar doesn't even dry I thought?

Yeah just checked, it's a non setting sealant.

I use exhaust repair paste on my gaskets. I'm sure someone will be along in a second to say its a bad idea but never had a problem with it.

    It's absolutely fine.
If you don't mind the risk of it oozing out the inside of the flange, hardening, and going on a day trip through your exhaust wheel.

Lol yeah its always a risk which is why I only put it on the very outer edge and a very thin layer so it doesn't ooze far enough to get inside the exhaust flow. And then when its all bolted down I pack a bit around the outside of the gasket.

Ok maybe the Titanium wasn't the best idea, trying to source some Iconel M10 studs now..

Yer exhaust past from downpipe back is fine, i would never use it between manifold and turbo.

Just pick one of these and job done

I thought cheap was not a good idea?

I'd love to buy 20 for £6 but are they really going to be up to the job?

They are just exhaust studs, there is nothing magical about them. I think you are over thinking this a lot
