    To remap or not remap?

I bought a 2009 Mazda 6 Sport SL Touring 185bhp 295 lb ft about 4 months ago, on 95k with full mazda service every 12k, one private owner and it's an outstanding daily...does everything i need, great to drive, lots of room, fully loaded, superb economy and handling.

Have already put 7k miles on it though and over the next two years i estimate the current 102k will become 158k miles. Therein lies the dilemma.

Elite remaps in Leeds have a good reputation on the mazda forums, and a stage 2 remap takes 185bhp and 295lb to 215bhp and 350 lb, with 5 to 6mpg better.

Normally a remap is a no brainer, but bearing in mind the car is on original clutch and flywheel etc, and the miles are generally A road dual carriage way and b roads of snowdonia, i'm not sure if i'm pushing it a bit, looking at the miles already on it and predicted over my next 2 years ownership.

    What would you do...and why?

the remap on our Volvo has been superb,

I never really thrash it, just put a good pace in when I do drive it, its worth it for the MPG alone we had Collins performance extract as much as possible on standard parts and it has around a 50% increase in torque, you can feel the DMF take the slack up if towing and giving it a foot full in 1st and 2nd, but for day to day use it doesn't really get any more hammer than it would anyway

    Hmmm ...
I am seeing this girl and she is fit and we are good friends ... Shall I have sex with her even if it ruins our friendship

I have this big mac in my hand, shall I eat it ... Even if it makes me fat

I am shopping and the inconsiderate bitch infont of me is blocking the aisle with her trolly ... Should I sneakily move it and hide it in another aisle whilst she isn't looking .... Even if its childish ?

Shall I remap the Mazda 6 even if it risks killing it

    YES !!! Captain dumbass questions

My instinct was to say no for a daily driver, but the extra 5 - 6 mpg ??????

Makes it a no brainer, pays for itself in a couple thou miles by itself, plus there are the extra smiles per mile as the added bonus.

Just remember, the right foot rules, no need to go mad and kill it just because it's been remapped.

I can't see where you've said how much a remap costs.

    Stage 2 remap is £260.

Thanks for the answers, normally have always remapped straight away, did the Merc after 8 weeks of owning it

Was just the mileage on the car and predicted mileage that made me question this one...especially on original clutch anc dmf was hoping to stretch them out another 2 years and 56k...might work!

I wouldnt do it if I had a faster car as it will kill the clutch and i assume it has a DMF as well in which case it will kill that too But as long as you have a spare £1k to get those done then go for it

off course everyone will say go for it but then when it dies they will just say 'oh, bummer'

@JW Remaps are normally between £200-300 for diesels.

Scottie, I'm in the same mind set. I have a 10 plate one on 64k and I could get the remap done no problem, I just fear the bill should the clutch shit itself.

    Regards,

Is it manual or auto ?

If you are remapping to get better fuel economy and more flexibility in the mid-range then I'd say yes as its not going to be hard on the clutch.

If you want to be able to surprise other cars at traffic light GPs, that's gonig to be hard on the clutch so "no".

Yea if you're gunna rape the shit outa the clutch racing chavs at Traffic lights then expect the clutch to give up sooner or later, but if you're not going to change driving styles then go for it.

You'll regret it if the clutch goes anyway (which Sod's Law says it will).

    V. VVV. V. a "No Brainer".

    YES.

MPG claims aside, only you know how you drive. Man up type thoughts otherwise.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a thread where someone mentions remapping their diesel, that isn't shortly followed by 'and then the clutch/dmf went'.

If that's something you're happy to accept, then go ahead. If you want to extend the life of those (no idea how much that will run you, I'd guess at least 1k?) then go for it
