I'm pretty sure Paul had a regular Smart car rather than a roadster.
Stay away from the mgf-
It will blow itself up, they are terrible to drive and feel super awkward compared to mx5! They're cheaper for a reason
Women tend to like the rx8's.
3k gets you a great one, and as long as good hot compression fairly cheap to run, especially on that mileage.

RX8s are a lot of car for the money. Keep a little in your pocket for emergencies is all. That's true for most cars though TBH.
And choose carefully, there are a lot of them about so don't buy the first one you see thinking its super-cheap. "They're all like that, Sir". Super-cheap that is
Why are RX8s so cheap?! Sub 50k mileage cars with FSH for £3k!
There's a dealer close by that only sells RX8s, and the cars come with a compression test.
Hextable Rotaries
Spoilt for choice
Is a Racing Puma within budget?
Ignorance and scare mongering mainly.
The general public are put off by :
1. Scared by rotary engine and horror stories from decades ago
2. High tax on later cars
3. Relatively poor mpg for bhp (these cars are about handling)
4. Don't realise how practical they are
5. Everyone's mate at the pub says oh don't buy one of them rotaries they nothing but trouble etc
I owned a PZ model for 2.5 years, it was an exceptional car, totally practical, exciting to drive, looked great and handled road and track with equal excellence I have never experienced since. Went to the Ring twice in it.
Faultless over nearly 3 years, they are a great buy IMO.
Was very sorry to see it go, but I went from a daily that did <5k PA to near 20k PA, and the RX is not the car for that, purely for MPG reasons!
You'll either like the drive or not, but well worth a test drive of the PZ (prodrive) model.

As above. What I will say, however, is that:
Everything you read about thirst is true.
They will die quickly if you don't keep on top of the oil level (although they don't use nearly as much as people claim)
They will flood if you only move them short distances, and will be a PITA to restart.
They will more than likely nuke engines if you don't treat most of the ignition system as a service item.
Everything said about fuel usage is true. But they do 18 to the gallon no matter how you drive them. So balls out everywhere is really the best way to take advantage of them.
Brilliant cars. Don't get too hung up on a PZ - they are a great steer, but then again, so is the stock car. The ways these things turn in is just exquisite for a car of that nature.
Yes as Si says first thing I did on mine was replace coils, plugs and leads.
Have to disagree on the thirst, yes they get 18mpg around town but I got a measured 28mpg several times on long runs, Warrington to Dover etc.
Don't switch off cold though, but in my experience they use less oil than new Audi's!
The stock car is great, and having had two at the time to drive I think the PZ is worth having, it is noticeable better IMO. (I used to have PZ and the Mrs a standard, so drove both regularly one after the other)
