Exclamation How do i remove this paint?

So, someone was kind enough to splash some white paint on my car (I guess by accident). I can't tell if it's matt or gloss. It's dried very hard, to the point where I cannot scratch it off using my finger nails.

Any ideas on how I can remove it without damaging the car's paintwork?

Paint thinners on a cloth should do it, or tar remover. Won't damage the painted panel below as its lacquered.

Thinners will still damage laquer very easily.

Can you try and chip it off with something pointed, a small screwdriver or razorblade, going at a 90 or 45degree angle to the panel, with extreme care, (do not scrape at it)! It's one of those things you just need to try things on.

Whatever you do will almost certainly mark the paint so you'll need to polish it up afterwards.

Id much rather go at it with a tiny amount of thinners on a cloth than a screwdriver! One slip and you could go right through to the primer, and that ain't polishing out.

It's a shame you don't live closer, I have a tool that would take that off in seconds.

Would diluted paint thinner do the job? May have a go with Tar remover first though.

Don't think I would trust myself using a screwdriver or razor on the car tbh.

What tool is it Jem? Something I could buy at halfrauds etc?

Id use a razor blade to get the worse off. Followed by some high grit sand paper (as suggested above), local to the paint blobs. Then polish.

Have you tried a plastic ice scraper? One with a fine edge might chip it off. A razor blade will work, but you need to be super careful

I haven't tried that actually. I'll give it a go, if it doesn't work I'll try the razor and sandpaper

Could always try cellulose thinners? And im sure thats the sort of thing you'd get from halfrauds.. Just try a little bit on a rag like Clint suggested rather than bash at it with a sharp object

I tried autoglym tar remover; did nothing! Same goes for WD40

Guess I'll have a hack at it with a blade

If you really want to scrape it off, use something that is softer than the thing you are sratching (credit card or anything made of soft plastic) that way there will be less damage if/when you miss and hit the car.

Personally I would get 800 grit sandpaper on a sanding block, then 1000, 2000, buff. Sanding block will keep the pressure on the highest point (raised blob of paint and not on the cars paintwork)

Really, really intrigued as to how this finishes. Can you get some video going?

I'm open to trying anything at this point whether its sandpaper or scraping.

    Grab a paint de-nibber buddy.
Razor blades have a knife edge (obviously) so can dig in, de-nibbers are designed to glide over top coats.
If you start by buying some tardis which is the best tar remover you can get really, go over it with that and see if it shifts it or atleast weakens it (spray direct to paint not to cloth and don't leave it on very long)
Alternatively gtechniq panel wipe is an alcohol based product I use which is designed to remove waxes etc which may also work.
Then Grab the de-nibber to shift the clumps.
Safest way to remove paint splatter
Make sure you wash down panel after to get rid of all the chemicals you have used.
