Been thinking about canopies today, I don't really want a plain dome but can't find anything else I like

You and jab1a are bad influences!

Did a fair bit of reading last night and found some very good (read dumbed down and easy to follow for muppets like me) diy guides online.

Probably won't be able to easily find the specifics mentioned but I am sure further wrbz trawling will find suitable alternatives

my tax rebate is going to disappear quite quickly i think

If you need any help sourcing bits, just ask.
I did a lot of interweb trawling myself so have quite a good idea of what is available from whom

Bugger, just fried my newest battery whilst setting up the ESCs
Forgot to plug in the voltage monitor wire, ran the battery down too low and one of the cells has puffed

Got it finished on another battery so made some progress.
Will post up another pic tomorrow once I've tidied up the wiring a bit.

Getting a bit excited now, she's nearly ready to go

Oh, I had a look at the camera you recommend Jab', I will be placing my order soon

Going to jump on the quadcopter band wagon.

First parts ordered - 2m of 2mm thick 20mm square aluminium tubing

Need to find a suitable centre plate template now. Going to use 3mm plywood to keep the cost down and I've read that its better for vibration damping than aluminium and cheaper than carbon for future repairs etc (i can see this being crashed a lot in the beginning). I'm thinking a three deck build to sandwich the arms and erectronics in place and give a bit of protection.

Probably should start my own thread I guess.

As promised, here she is after final wiring and a bit of a tidy up
I am now just waiting for the flight control board to USB interface so I can flash it with the latest firmware. I have been advised not to fly it with the version it has on it as the auto level is buggy.

So, popped a set of props on for the pic and here she is

My USB programmer thing turned up today.
Cant install the drivers for it though, every time I try it just pops up an error message stating 'access is denied'

Tried turning UAC off, disabling my antivirus and driver signing. It just doesn't want to know

After cocking around for hours and coming very close to taking my chain saw to my laptop, I finally gave up trying to install the driver on windows 7. The more I use 7 the more I hate it.

I dug out my old xp machine which I kept 'just in case' and the driver went straight on with no problems. The flashing software also went straight on without issue. When I tried that on 7 it said I didn't have Java and I definitely fecking have

Anyway, I'm fed up with it for tonight so will attempt the flashing tomorrow

Then....... It's time for her maiden flight

I think you should find a dead cat and cable tie it to this contraption.

That is a flight of pure awesomeness right there Robbhp

I also discovered today that the usb doobry has the wrong connector for my flight control board so I raided my come-in-handy box and made up a new lead from some old PC connectors and some servo leads
Ive checked the pin locations about 10 times but I'm still worried about frying the flight controller. If you see smoke coming from the direction of Wiltshire and hear FFFFUUUUUUUUUUU** in the next few minutes, that'l be me

Brain surgery complete and flight control board set up

She just left the ground for the first time, in my lounge
After a few tweaks she is so stable it is unreal. The difference between this and flying a heli huge, I cant quite believe how easy it is to control in comparison (probably the kiss of death)

Right, I'm off to find a field

I don't have anyone to hold a camera for me so no vids quite yet but trust me they will be coming soon to a PC near you

Awesome. I really want to build one of these and mount my GoPro on it.

Your flight controller, is it a GPS based one? I've gotta cheap quadcopter now but it's not very steady and crashes a lot lol.

No flying today, something came up so I didn't get a chance
Hopefully will get an opportunity this weekend.

    Daz,
No, my flight controller doesn't have GPS. It just has some awesome custom firmware that has fantastic auto stability control. What quad have you got?
