In love with these!!
In love with these!!
I have had the nod from SXOC to run a group buy for members on these
I need to finalise a few things first to make sure its viable
Please feel free to ask any questions and don't forget to keep an eye on the members section
Cant wait. Ive a set of zenki lights here waiting
Yes yes yes!!
im interested in a set (was gonna make some but why bother if you have done it already? :P)
couple of questions,
what brand of leds are they?
how many leds make up each section?
are they surface mount? superflux? etc
what luminosity intensity are they?
what wavelength are they for each color?
are they voltage regulated? if so what type of regulators are being used?
are the leds from the same bin number for each light?
sorry for all the crappy questions
To be honest I did not expect Nathan to disclose ANY information (for obvious reasons) but he has kindly given the following answers to some of your questions
what brand of leds are they? CREE 5mm Oval (Through Hole)
how many leds make up each section? 144 Red + 36 Amber per side.
what wavelength are they for each color? Red approx 621nm / Amber approx 591nm
are they voltage regulated? if so what type of regulators are being used? Linear voltage regulators.
are the leds from the same bin number for each light? The LEDs are as supplied by the manufacturer - usually the same bin.
Hopefully that helps with your decision
Sweet cheers bud
14a compatible?
I take it you mean will the boards fit in the 14a light housings?
If so, no
The area for light output on the 14a light units is to small for what I wanted to achieve. If I get enough sales of this design to cover my development cost then I will happily develop (with Nathans agreement) a 14a version with a different design (I actually already have a design in mind).
As you probably know (but just in case you dont) the 14 light housings are a direct fit into the 14a
I do
They are fairly readilly available, Ive bought two complete sets in great condition over the past few months, both of wich where around £40 delivered
One of the reasons I went for 14 units (aside from the unrestricted lenses) was because they are available cheaply and I knew I would destroy a couple of sets in the name of research
As Ive said, I may do some 14a ones in the future but this depends on peoples willingness to mod them (umongst other things)
Also, once the conversion has been done you can no longer use the standard 'normal' bulbs
Raising my hand here to show interest.
Ta,
R.
Does anyone know if the S14A lenses would fit on the S14 housings? If so maybe that would solve the S14A problem?
Just realised I have a set kicking about....

They do but it would not solve the problem I'm afraid.
The problem IS the lenses, they have smaller apertures for the light to pass through.
As Ive said before, if I sell enough of the 14 ones to get my development cost back then I will put the money straight back into developing a 14a version
Any updates on these?
Im really sorry I havnt updated this thread recently.
Ive had two serious illnesses in the familly this year and obviously they come first. Everything else has simply gone on hold, this project included.
If anyone else would like to run the group buy, I will have a chat with Nathan (the chap who makes these) and see if he will be happy to do that.
Please drop me a PM if you are interested.
Absolutely nothing to be sorry for mate, don't be silly. The fact you're doing this off your own back is hard enough, let alone with other issues. All the best to you/your family, hope everything turns out ok
