Good work on the suggestions thus far lads

We sold my wife's for £2.7k. It was on about a hundred and a bit k miles, but needed about £300 of new bushes, the bodywork was a bit scruffy, and the exhaust was on its way out. Other than that it was great. Had a strong engine, good 'box, and a solid shell, However, bearing in mind the time of year you can probably get one that's had all the suspension work done (bushes tend to need doing on higher milers) for your budget. Utterly brilliant cars, I sorely miss it.

In that price bracket unless you're exceptionally good at finding a bargain, you'll be buying a nail. I looked for months for a decent one at £4k-£5k and found nothing.

Entirely possible to pick up a decent DC2 for ~£3500 nowadays so with a bit of negotiation it'll get to budget, just

Thanks for all the suggestions lads, no 4wd though, not really a fan. RWD is the preference, I'll have a look for fiat coupe's though but closest DC2 is 195 miles away. I test drove a e36 M3 evo before buying the clio, it was the first one I've driven and it didn't feel blisteringly quick but I suppose that's the way with BM's.

Having thought about it I'm not sure on rx8's.

    Cheers,

    Dunc.

Get reading up on VANOS issues!

When I looked into these a few years back most needed a complete suspension overhaul

Little bit left field but a tidy crx is much fun unless you want on demand oversteer for long periods of time and will reward with near 40mpg too, just don't crash it.

M3 wasn't in good condition so not going for that, not interested in 4wd. I'll have a look and see if there are any crx's about but not totally sold on the idea, sounds like trouble.

The one for 2k was a convertible,I actually posted it in the m3 forum as it was a bargain, came with spare wheels to,was an older guy who just needed a quick sale to keep his new company afloat.
If you do buy one I wouldn't worry to much about the vanos aslong as you can feel it working, most of them have a rattle but that doesn't mean its not working or going to fail.

That's what I was saying. I looked for a good while and couldn't find one in strong enough condition to warrant paying £4k for. Let alone £2k.

Being up here doesn't help in terms of choice either, there's a power load of civic type-r's, maybe worth a punt. I'm busy over the next few days though getting the engine back into my race car, there is one local though I could take a peek at.
