Calling IT bods!! laptop freezing on shutdown screen? help!!

Hi guys, looking for some help/advice

My laptop won't shut down properly? it just stays on the shutdown screen forever, like literally overnight I have no option but to hold down the off button yet there seems to be no problem with it?

Whenever I turn it back on it works fine,I can't notice a problem with it but surely this isnt right?

    Any help welcome

What happens when you try to shut it down from Safe Mode? You can get into safe mode by tapping the F8 key just after you power on the machine and before you see the Windows loading splash screen.

If it's only just started doing it you could try a System Restore: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936212
