    stage 1a new clutch advice!

    Hey guys...
    Just a quick question...
Im after a new clutch for my 14a. The current one is making a horrible grown/moan noise at random times...so still not sure if its the flywheel, release bearing or the clutch!

The car is at stage 1a...so what one do you guys recommend!?

I think i read that the exedy organic clutch is good for the stage 1a. Its my daily and occasionally gets skided!

Im really after a normal clutch, and not a paddle like i have at the moment...

so am i right in thinking an organic is what i need?!

    Cheers
    Yann.

Not hard at all but I did it on a ramp :P took about 3 hours. The pedal is stiffer than the standard feel. But you will get used to it.

Daily car with 311bhp/ 309 ft/lbs and an exedy organic clutch. It's a good bit heavier than the standard clutch but not so that is becomes tiring or a chore.

Yann, I am running an Exedy Organic Clutch.
It is great for power, holds abuse quite well (few trackdays and 'Ring).

It is heavier, when I picked up the suspension off you, on way back got stuck in an accident, it was proper heavy (but that was literally the most extreme case).

But otherwise it is spot on really

Another vote for the excedy. I had one in the s14a and it was really good.

I went for the Exedy sprung paddle clutch at stage 1a, loved it but it did judder occasionally and smelt odd but thats par for the course with them. Didnt think the organic one would take the abuse on track days tbh

Exedy with me is a daily driver and so far has had 3 track days and a week at the Ring. Still no complaints.

I fitted my exedy when converting from auto to manual. Use it as my daily, 40miles a day no probs. not given it any proper abuse yet though!

I need one for my Stage 1a as well, not sure what clutch is currently fitted but i'm going to guess standard.

Those running reasonable power with this clutch, do you get any clutch slip at all? Mine was slipping with under a bar of boost

have an exedy aswell. good clutch for daily dont know how it is under bigger power though.
my paddle clutch in the 180sx was my fav clutch till now.
and the exedy in the 400bhp evo3 was excellent. never a problem. heavy though.

chunky - i have read about people having clutch issues/slipping when on stage 1a and a standard clutch...so yea i would change yours soon!

I had a low mileage standard clutch and it was slipping like a mofo in 3rd and 4th gear on the drive home on the day of mapping to Stage 1a. Deffo will need a clutch upgrade!

    .
Sounds very much like the crank spigot bush. Make sure it gets swapped whilst the box is out.
