arch loom rubbed now no power + help on routing loom in engine

Right my arch loom has been tucked already but I noticed yesterday that after all this time its been slightly rubbing on lock on the loom/grommit and its rubbed through a few wires. I guess that's why my speedo went last week.

Anyway I got the wheel off and found a few chewed wires and after pulling them about to assess the damage when I put the keys in the car had no power or ignition.

Is this a wire I've disturbed at that loom or something else?

Also anyone got a link on pulling the loom from in the car to reroute it though the engine bay?

I did this very thing, and it was a royal PITA. To route it inside the engine bay, it actually needed to be a little bit longer, IIRC, so I just cut each wire, pulled it out at each end, ran them inside the engine bay and rejoined with a little bit of extension. Soldered and heat-shrinked.
Where ever you go, never take an idiot with you. You can be sure you'll find one when you get there.

Can't be bothered to cut and paste, so here's my build thread with the loom moved.

Cool so that's just re routed out the grommit and through the side metal arch and not cut or extended?
How does the loom undo from the footwell?? Hard to see loom/fusebox well as its got a fixed seat and door bar'd rollcage

It's a bit fiddly, I'd remove the seat as it's really tight, especially re-connecting it as it's a thick loom and doesn't really want to bend where you need it.
There are 3, (I think), connector plugs in the drivers footwell, which go back out the grommet hole, then cut a hole and re route it through the side. No extending needed.

There's a thread on Driftworks about how to do it with pictures.

Have a look at my post.

For best results disconnect ECU when checking as the red wires are back feed though the ECU from somewhere else.

Please post pics as i am trying to sort mine at moment.

I have been recommended not to solder. I have bulleted mine back together.

I manage to unplug from back of fusebox in car and didnt need to extend anything but indicator wire.

Didn't even have to cut the hole larger going to bay from arch as everyone seems to have to do.

That's a idea using bullets to rejoin my wires I cut. Might rivet a small plate/shield over the bit that rubs. I'm selling my gtrd's for 17s so that'll help

Soldering is much better. Who told you to use bullet connectors?

Solder is good but it can crack. I was told.to use crimps after crimping it. Its working so I am going to leave it alone.

The triangular hole goin from arch to engine bay. I have seen alot of people using tin snips to make hole large fro plugs to fit through from the arch to bay hole. Mine fitted through fine but was tight.

I think keeping loom intact is better overall really, plus i would imagine soldering 70 odd wires would take ages.

Never heard an electrician recommend anything but soldering, connectors can quickly have issues with corrosion which causes bad connections.

I use connectors all the time for ease, mostly on internal joints though.

So you took the standard loom through the engine bay?
