cant get 2.1 sound to work in windows

having trouble with sound setup, using a trust USB 5.1 soundcard and 2.1 speakers so left+right+sub

got everything connected properly and ive setup the speakers in the windows speaker setup. If you choose the speaker test you get left then right then a sub noise so i know its all working right however i cant get any application to use the subwoofer only uses the left and right speakers.

tried windows media player using cds and mp3s just comes out with no sub and tried winamp with the same sort of thing. I know the files arnt encoded in 5.1 or anything but thought id be able to get some bass output?

    Any ideas?

You have the correct drivers installed, not Microsoft own one?

You probably need to enable "bass redirection" somewhere in your soundcard config. Either in the config of the playback device in windows or in a bundled app that came with the drivers.

hmm i checked for this option but i cant find it anywhere in the soundcard options or the config application that came with the soundcard. Also been looking through plugin and playback settings on windows media player and winamp but cant come up with anything

I've enabled speaker fill in the sound card enhancments but still not working correctly

You definitely need to find a bass redirection option, or a crossover frequency if it's already enabled. If they're tiny little satellite speakers then it should be around 120-140Hz.
