Pileup at Castle Combe last weekend

Keeping with the racing pileup threads from the last few weeks here's one I was involved in on August the 1st - I had to clean up after the buggers!

After a day of very few accidents and while actually running ahead of schedule, one of the marshalls I was posted with commented on how quiet the day had been for us

2 races later and this happened on the start of the Castle Combe Saloons

(If vid doesn't play properly then play it in 240p, it was dropping frames for me @ 360)

And another view of the chaos:

I was marshalling at Avon rise so had to leg it down to Folly to help in clearing up the mess, must have taken 3 posts worth of marshalls about 20 mins to clean it all up

Bloody hell, thats a lot of carnage for a race series like that.

Looks like a nice cheap race series aswell.

    Feck me!

You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

And if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem!

Hellish I guess the Civic driver stalled it. Bad times!

I was at Combe last year for the british superkart round there and there were 2 massive accidents right in front of my after T1

First one was in a Fiesta race where they were trying to go through 4 abreast. One clipped the grass, lost it and took another two cars out and another got t-boned.

Second one was proper scary in the TVR race. First car came through dropping oil and the next 3 cars pirouetted off into the infield and the barrier. The first one came to a stop near the crops in the middle of the track and the 3rd car that came along smashed into the back of it while the driver was trying to get out of the car I think he managed to get himself strapped in before he got hit though as he was OK apparently. Both cars caught fire and they used up every extinguisher on the circuit to put it out. Pretty serious, but could have been so much worse!

Combe is pretty much a death trap circuit though. There is next to no run-off so the MSA have "advised" them not to resurface it because the average speed on the circuit will be even higher, but the current surface is pretty horrendous

Admitadely, there is little outfield runoff, but there is unlimited infield runoff, what other tracks have that? At any point on combe, you can only 'crash' on one side of the track, that's not so bad!

That's just it though, they're not*

Normally the Combe Saloons are amoung the best driven of the series here, the fast guys are mentally fast and the slow ones stay out of the way when needs be....

Until that race at any rate

    *well, apart from being unpayed

can't decide whether I'm glad I wasn't there to help clean up or whether I'm a bit dissapointed that I wasn't there and missed all the action

actually did lol at the rover though, good times

although lots of carnage, nothing too bad looking, was there any major injuries FMG?

Only to bank accounts as I understood it

That said, a marshall was hit by some flying debris at quarry in one of the Fiesta races too. Luckily they were also alright from what I heard when leaving
